Nope, just like to advise people on the best/most popular products, best after-sales service, etc. ;)

Best after-sale service my @ss
Like you might know, I have the Samsung 42” C430, i bought it last week Desember, last month the 11th Samsung sent out a technician to come and fetch my plasma for repairs, not once did I get a call from them updating me on the status of my plasma, each week I had to call, and each week I received the same update “waiting for parts”. Samsung’s policy says after 21 days they have to replace the whole unit, so after 21 days I call them again and the service centre says that’s fine they will replace it, they dropped off the broken plasma at my house and told me to take it back to the place I bought the plasma

So I call the place I bought it and ask them if I can bring it back as per Samsung, the guy says no he needs a written letter before he can exchange it, so I call Samsung again and they said no, it’s just an misunderstanding, I can take the plasma back with my reference number and they will exchange it, so 4pm I went to the shop with the plasma (40km one way), I arrived at the store and told the guy what Samsung told me, I give him the reference but he refuses to exchange, I call Samsung from the shop, all of the sudden it has to approved at the VOC department and it can take around 7 days, so I blew a casket and told them what the agent told me and I can just give the shop my reference, after a long apology the lady from Samsung tells me they will mark it as urgent and she promises the letter will be there the next day and I can exchange

Next day I call Samsung and ask them how far the letter is, now apparently they are waiting for forms form the shop, I call the shop and they tell me they have not had any contact from Samsung.
I call Samsung again and they tell me they are waiting for the job card, so I email them the job card because I did not want more mis-Communication, I get a read report but not a single response for either party, I try calling, but after holding for 30minutes (I timed it) I hung up

The next Monday I call again and the lady says she received the letter and I can just take the plasma in for an exchange, I call the shop and ask them if it’s okay, they said he did not receive anything and can to do anything, so I called Samsung again, then the lady said I have to be in the shop before the email can be set, so again I drove all the way there, we called Samsung in the shop, after 1hour the guy at the shop told me to just take the new one, we were still waiting for the email from Samsung

So this whole exercise cost me over a moth without a plasma, no cricket WC, no Super15, 160km I had to drove up and down because Samsung and the shop could not communicate with each other, I promise you I probably called Samsung 20 – 30 times, and im the client….
Now if this is good, or the “best after-sales service” like you put it, then I don’t want to know how bad poor after-sale service is

Bad luck. Were you dealing with Samsung or Samsung warranty agents? I suspect incompetence at the store you bought from as well.

Other forumites have received great service, swap outs on the spot without needing any references, etc.

It looks awesome!

I love the keyboard on the remote.

I see expansys has them for R2787.81
Hmmm tempting!

i wont disagree with you on this, but Samsung knew about the problems and the shop policy, why did they not go out of their way to correct it?, why did they not phone the shop and arrange with them, why did i as the client have to do everything? personally i think the plasma should have been swopped out at the Samsung service centre when they realised they are not going to get the part, but putting me as the client through all this, it’s unacceptable, how can i ever again recommend Samsung to anyone after this?

i went through the same emotions :-P, the problem for me with the BoxEE is that it does not support a internal HD, and it only has 2 usb ports, that was the deal breaker for me and probably the main reason for going with the Xtreamer Pro

I don't want a HDD - so its perfect for me - all my data is networked.

Yeah, the lack of HDD support is a non-issue in my world... Have data on my servers so it should be all good really.

Unicorn, who make the Xtreamer are a real bunch of unethical bastids. They also made the Mvix player, they promised a whole lot of functionality on their units and kept promising new fw's but when they brought out the Xtreamer they just stopped support for the Mvix. Left all the Mvix owners dead in the water.
Thats why, even tho the unit looks awesome, I will not touch the Xtreamer. Who knows when they will leave that dead in the water and move onto the next big thing.

It funny you should mention that, that’s exactly what they did with the pro, huge amount of promises with non coming through, they should have called it the ANC Pro :P
Now they have released (or are going to) the Xtreamer Ultra and the Prodigy with much better hardware, so ja, seems like it’s the way Xtreamer operates, I had a real go at them on the Xtreamer Forums, but they never reply, and if they reply it’s a rude remark or something that has no relevance to my question, they can’t care less

I hate that skewe design of the boxee.Me loves them smooth straight lines. That ugly thing is banned in my house.

Ja i tend to agree, if they did not cut of the one side maybe there would have been space for an internal drive

So - I sold my mede8er - and decided to give a Boxee Box a try - R1900 excl. customs, ordered yesterday, will hopefully arrive next week, they said 3-5 days delivered.

Looking forward to trying something new, if it doesn't work - back to mede8er, but this time just the MED400x

Yeh... main reason for selling the mede8er was that I don't use it with a internal drive, so its overkill...sub reasons were the ugly interface, and terrible music browsing support.

Other than that - it played everything I could throw it it over the network.

Reason for going with the boxee box - I liked the PC version's interface, especially the automatic media meta data collection, I also liked the ability to stream from various online sources... I'd also like to try a proxy account to the US and see what contents available, and if enough, cancel DSTV.

Just thought of something - this thing is probably going to be American 110v - what do I need over here to use it?
