Still haven't watched any Full HD content... but watched a few episodes of The Walking Dead 720p last night without issue.

The device itself is a bit slow for my liking... e.g. 5-10 seconds for something to start playing, same for when it stops.... menu navigation isn't the fastest.... but I still prefer the interface to Mede8er, and still prefer the actual device.

I'll only get to FullHD content tomorrow night...

I can't test ANY online content as it refuses to download the apps with a "Application failed to download" error - I've got a thread on the boxee forums and avsforum... very frustrating as I'm not sure if its a country related problem, I see a few people have been having it since the forced firmware update in February... next one is apparently in May.

If the online content won't work for SA - then the device is just an expensive network player... I'm also having issues with media scraping, but it might just be my naming convention, so I'll go through all my content and rename this weekend.

It might be my imagination, but the sound seems better on the boxee box than the mede8er - I started Tron Legacy last night, and the surround sound was WAY more real.

Oh - and before I forget - accessing music also hasn't been pleasent, its a lot better than the mede8er, but it doesn't use the "Album Artist" tag - which I use for compilation albums, so now I've got 100's of artists I know nothing about which come from compilations such as Putumayo CDs... like AC, Red, etc, etc.

Its support for FLAC is also way better than mede8er.

Good feedback, thank you.

I guess the real clincher is the online content, so please let us know when / if you get that up and running.

Looking forward to trying 1080p with decent sound - as this was the most frustrating thing on the mede8er, it would pause or drop out at least once during playback, usually more.... my network is gigabit with three switches through out the house, but doesn't really help when the device is only 100MB

Eish.. and you've been holding out on us?!?!!? I'm disappointed man, disappointed :p

It seems the problem might have been with the VB based Openweb account and reaching the boxee app download site - I couldn't get it working last night again, and then switched over the an @openweb account and everything went perfectly.

I was able to stream most of the content pretty well - all SD - I did get quite a bit of buffering - but it might have been the actual sources... but at least now its working.

awesome..

I think I might put Boxee on my HTPC at some point...

dammit you people have made me want a boxee bad, besides for expansys any other local company one would be able to purchase from that holds stock?

I don't think expansys holds stock....

Do what I did - bhphoto.com - 5 working days to deliver, and still cheaper than the local guys who import themselves.

So - I sold my mede8er - and decided to give a Boxee Box a try - R1900 excl. customs, ordered yesterday, will hopefully arrive next week, they said 3-5 days delivered.

Looking forward to trying something new, if it doesn't work - back to mede8er, but this time just the MED400x

Hi xrapidx , how much was the customs on the Boxee and who did you order from?

What are you going to do if it breaks under warranty? Shipping it back ain't gonna be cheap.

Who cares, does the damn HD work, and what online content can you access?

That, is pertinent information ;)

To be honest - I didn't think of that :p Considering shipping and customs is R1000 :p It'll probably be cheaper to order another one.

I do have electronic insurance that covers me for repairs of my goods to the value of R10,000 - so I guess I could use that.

Just watched Tron Legacy, 18GB - played without one pause... and for some reason it sounded better - might just be me though :p It also allows jumping forward/back much easier than the mede8er....

Online content I'm still having issues with, I got the apps to work on @openweb.co.za, but not on vb - according to the boxee Jira its a DNS issue - and I just got a email from MrBEEP telling me to try a specific DNS server, will report back tomorrow... bed time now.
