Hi,

I'm studying BScIT majoring in Computer Science & Business management at the University of the Free State and I recently started getting paranoid. Will it actually be seen a computer science degree or just as IT?

Anyone here that have completed their studies at UFS in one of these branches with stories to tell? Will I be at a disadvantage compared to someone who has a degree named BSc CompSci?

How much maths, stats, app. maths are you doing?

What are your CS courses through 3rd year?

For future reference:

BScIT in Computer Science & Business Management is unfortunately not equivalent to a BSc in Computer Science (although there is overlap). As the name of the degrees suggest, one is IT & business focused and the other broader. Employers will not consider the two degrees to be the same.

Whether you will be at a disadvantage compared to the BSc CompSci grad is a matter of opinion. A BScIT is certainly seen as the 'easier' option out of the two and the degree prepares you for a different career path compared to BSc CompSci.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though, as I mentioned there is a lot of overlap

Why do you think you will be disadvantaged? What is it you want to do?

Full on developer? Or Analyst / Developer?
