Apologies if this has been asked and if I have missed it -

Citroen C3 (Feel) or Hyundai Grand i-10 (Motion) ? Both 2023 models with similar low kms.

If it's this C3 (Europe one) then it would be better than the Grand i10

If you are looking at the Indian built C3 then there are pro's and cons between this and the Grand i10. Look at the spec sheets, also look at some reviews and importantly test drive the cars.

Morning everyone.

I know there are a million threads already asking this same question. But there are wise heads here on the forum when it comes to cars, so it's frankly your fault.

I have a 2008 Hyundai i10 which is paid up for a number of years. Main reason I haven't upgraded is because its my car and not the banks and has been very reliable. But with about 195k on the clock there just seemingly seems to be always something wrong and its costing me a bit

So looking to do an upgrade but am on a budget of between R100k - R110k but as a push maybe R120k (but only if it's a really good deal and I would be stupid to let it go. I'm looking between Hyundai and Renault, some examples below:

Between the Renault's, I would prefer the Sandero although they tend come with higher milleage than I'd prefer or an older model. The Kwid, I am aware of the issues, but would likely be a transitional car for a year or 2 and then traded in when finances allowed. Also with the Kwid, there seem to be a million different models so that is a little confusing. I know not to get the first models that came out, but from which year did the improvements come in so that it wasn't a death trap?

I quite like the Grand i10 but have heard that it is a little low in power. Keeping in mind that I'm coming from the old school, I probably wouldn't notice anyway. With the i20, not too keen with the milleage and the year models are beginning to reach the low 2010's

I am probably leaning towards the Sandero or Grand i10, the link just being examples. Fuel economy and reliability are my priorities. What should I be looking out for on these models? And any others brands I should be considering, like Suzuki?

I'm leaning towards the Grand i10. My current car woes aside, my i10 has been a warhorse over the years so I've enjoyed the Hyundai brand.

I've heard Kia can be a bit expensive when it comes to repairs, so tended to stay away

Knowing the turbo on the Sandero can be an issue is good to know

Other than the gi10 all those other cars are crap. I don't like Hyundai but I've had quite a few grand i10's of as rentals, and has some friends that owns them, cracking little cars.

Don't buy the kwid, unless you hate yourself.

Nail on the head. I dont know which i hate more, the kwid or etios. They are terrible cars. materials could qualify as Styrofoam.

What did Styrofoam ever do to you to deserve that insult?

Yeah, thats nonsense. My wife used to own a 1.4 polo, that thing wasn't heavy on fuel at all.

I would say, if the car is costing you more monthly than the cost of a replacement, then go for it, otherwise I would save as much deposit as I could, coupled with the trade in of your car or sell it privately and get something a bit more upmarket than a budget hyundai...

But if you are looking for a cheap small car I like the Up!

Wife current car is an up, currently on 168k km more or less (I have driven it in a while) and it's been flawless. Tyres, fuel and services. That's it.

Was R109 000. Came with a 2 warranty if anything mechanical breaks. Full service history all stamps in book, currently on about 115 000 km

Tyres are fine though the rear will need to replaced sooner rather than later

Tof the intake manifold. Common issue.

The only reason to go for the Citroen is if it's significantly cheaper.

You mean free, with a substantial cash incentive.
