Budget Car Recommendations

I have heard some horror stories about the petrol Figo's but as far as I am aware the diesel engines are pretty bulletproof.

They are the same engines from the earlier Fiestas, the Duratec/Zetec. The engines on their own are not too much of a problem, the fact that the car is a Ford is a problem.

Electronics sometimes act up and gives you endless problems. My sister and niece both have the Fiesta, it works most of the time but driving around with an engine light has become a normal way of life, sometimes the car works perfectly with the engine light on, sometimes it does not, apparently earthing was a problem on those, no idea if they could have fixed it on the Figo.

also figo is thirsty on feul, the diesel is good but the petrol model gets pretty bad feul consumption.

So quick update.

I have decided to go with a 2014 Ford Figo 1.4 Ambiente.

I drove the Grand i10 for a month as a rental and while a nice car, got a little tired fighting the car for power. It's almost like the electronics are nannying you. Every other car in my budget is either high milleage or a micro machine like the Kwid

Car is in great condition, full service history. Overall happy with my decision

Just curious, what did you pay for it and what mileage was on the clock?
Had it had a 100k major service and anything replaced like fan or cam belt? Tyres?

Was R109 000. Came with a 2 warranty if anything mechanical breaks. Full service history all stamps in book, currently on about 115 000 km

Tyres are fine though the rear will need to replaced sooner rather than later

hows the fuel consumption been so far?

Have you guys seen this car, 300NM on the Diesel version
Sounds very impress I want to test drive this just for the fun of it
Can you image the torque on this size vehicle I bet that would also pay to fuel economy advantages.

I found 1.4 polo pretty heavy or the inlaws vivo was pretty heavy, motor has to work like clockwork to keep at 120km/h, i was doing like 9/10L for 100km
I've heard a cracked manifold (common in some polo models) causes a spike in fuel usage

Apologies if this has been asked and if I have missed it -

Citroen C3 (Feel) or Hyundai Grand i-10 (Motion) ? Both 2023 models with similar low kms.
