Building under construction collapses in George

Seems they're nearly done with cleaning out the site, a small corner is what's left.

I don't see those last few bodies coming out of that corner. Lads probably saw the building drop after lunch and walked away.

Then the developers must be held responsible for hiring them, without checking credentials.

Drove past this morning, its quiet, the people supporting and families seem waaaay less, compared to a few days ago

No idea they have a small facebook page but appears to be small housing developments they have build. Would also like to check some of the buildings the engineer has designed lately
 
Netwerk 24 reports the 76 year old engineer's previous project had to be demolished halfway through after it was deemed unsafe.

Various investigations have been conducted and concluded, with Western Cape Premier Alan Winde promising that these would be collated and tabled at the province’s next cabinet meeting in 2025.

A day after Winde received the report on 1 August, journalist Alida de Beer of the George Herald noted that three directors of Neo Victoria Developments, the developer of 75 Victoria, had resigned since the disaster.

These included Dylan Brockway and Alwyn Gey van Pittius, who both resigned on 13 May, a week after the collapse, and Johannes Swanepoel, who resigned on 18 June. The only remaining member of the group is Carel Swanepoel, according to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission.

ah this thread again, reminds me of a building constructed in my hood, construction halted sometime in winter and took quite a while to restart which seemed weird as they were going full throttle until then

once they returned suddenly they're installing massive metal girders as support for the already finished concrete structure, clearly was unplanned as the one cross-brace completely blocks what would have been basement parking spots and/or basement driveway

methinks someone fahked up good and proper there too, wouldn't buy one of those apartments unless I wanted a huge insurance claim in my future ...

Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane has on Wednesday briefed the media on the outcomes of the National Home Builders Regulatory Council [NHBRC] investigation into the George building collapse.

"The investigation into this process revealed significant irregularities in the registration process. The company in question inaccurately presented its capabilities during the registration phase. Among other things, it failed to declare its intention to construct a multi-storey building. This omission by its very nature breached the NHBRC's policies."

"This included unqualified personnel who lacked formal qualifications in engineering or quantity surveying, and they were playing critical roles in areas such as inspection. And if you are not qualified, you really won't even know what to expect, and that's one of the reasons which led to the problems that subsequently befell the George building."
