Car purchase...

The problem is, Outsurance is a known company, going with people who give you lower premiums normally mean 'catches' involved... we all know how insurance companies are out to screw 'us' any way they can!

Outsurance cuts out the middleman by being one themselves and spending all your money on adds. Premiums are always higher than old-school insurance brokers who work with SAntam etc

...*jumps in*; buying the car second hand- i mean which reseller can you trust or do you still have to take the car for a full inspection before/after buying it ?. currently i have looked on autotrader and aaautobay....

So, who would be a good insurer to go with? (In your opinon)

Depends on your needs.

If you can afford to wait for a payout, go for the cheaper guys(indwe). If not, look for someone who works with santam and compare their quotes with outsurance/dialdirect/etc

autotrader and aa autobay arent resellers. they are advertisers?

Go to one of the brand resellers like toyota automark, vw mastercars etc

And remember: the salesman is not your friend. You are his lunch. Selling a car to you puts money in his pocket.

thatdamnJoe; agreed, I know.

Auto Trader, CapeAds etc just advertise the products.

I'm watching them closely, but at the end of the day, I first need to work on the 10% deposit.

I've been told NOT to pay more than 10% - any reason why?

Could not think of a reason not to pay more than 10% deposit(unless you're a rep and can claim tax benefits from the financing charges?). the bigger the deposit, the smaller the debt = the smaller the downpayment every month.

obviously not- that was not my question as my question was about buying second hand cars which i stated i have looked for on autotrader and aaautobay and wasn't sure if they are the only ones to be trusted (obviously their listed stock, the private sellers and actual thing that you get) and if i should just as well do a check before/after the sale.

Does anyone know any web sites (maybe of companies based in CPT) who sell the following:

So I can get pricing etc.

GEARLOCK
IMMOBILISER
ALARM SYSTEM
STEERING LOCK

I dont think insurance is negotiable on a financed car...
i would prob go between a golf or corsa. Lean more towards the golf. You can get some decent ones for 40k.... Still leave you with extra "in case" money to put aside

and try avoid the tempatation of doing residual.......

Recommending a golf is like recommending a push up bra for Meat Loaf.

Some punctuation please, I cant quite make out what you mean.

You asked which resellers can be trusted and then mentioned having looked at those sites. My bad for connecting the two.

Most of the brand resellers(mastercars, automark etc) guarantee title(meaning that the car isn't listed as stolen) and include some sort of 50 point check or similar. What kind of check are you referring to?

STEERING LOCK

This should be standard, every car I've ever driven has had steering lock, if the Citi golf doesn't have one then it's hands down the worst car ever, not that there is much competition that can take that crown from it.

I wonder if he means some other kind of device, kind of like those push in this straight steel shaft gearlocks or maybe one of those "gorilla" type steering locks. Since I fitted one they havent tried to steal my car again...

I've only ever seen 1 car with a steering lock and that is my GF's car.

If it's standard, then NO ONE I KNOW uses it.

I want to try and get much 'security' on the car so that insurance will be as less as possible.

We are talking where you turn the wheel and it goes click if the key isn't in the ignition and/or turned. My uno you have to do a good twist, my bantam immediately engages it when the key comes out, so you wont even see me do it. Most cars have it and thiefs can bypass that easily enough because they've learnt how over the years.

Don't know what you are refering too.
