Car purchase...

When I told the guy from Outsurance that I wanted to do the ADC's, he said that after, I must send in the certificates and Outsurance will look at my premiums again and adjust accordingly - nothing about by how much.

But anything that keeps the vehicle safe etc would mean less of a risk etc.

They should be able to quote you on the spot. I mean they give you a quote immediately, regardless of having "proof" [you need to supply it later though]. I don't know why they need to wait for you spend R2k+ on a course to tell you what they already know?

Something tells me that I won't be able to afford getting a R50,000 car (Toyota Tazz) and will probably have to go lower (R30 - R40,000)

*sigh*

Do you have too many expenses, or you just don't get paid that much?

Ok guys;

Let's say I get a car that is 'cheaper' than what I wanted, I'm currently looking at getting a car privately for ± R30 000.

What are the first things I'm going to have to check for?

I'll be taking someone with who knows vehicles, but what stuff should I look out for (incase he misses them)

1. Obviously let that person test drive it thoroughly.
1. Check the mileage - obviously the car would have done too many kilos.
2. Check for dents and scratches
3. Check the interior if everything is still intact
4. NB. Take it to AA for technical testing before you buy it - if you have R300 to throw away.
5. Demand a service history book.

The best place you can get a nice car is to target old women. They tend to take care of their cars.

Question;

"The amount of the vehicle must b e more than R30 000 after deposit"

What exactly does that mean?

Let's say I find a vehicle that is R30 000 or even R31 000

Would that qualify?

Only if you don't pay any deposit....

They're looking for a finance amount of over R30k

Then you'll need to find a car in the R35k range to get over the R30k min financing requirement.

Yeah.

Well, with all the problems going on as of late (Economic blah blah blah) I've decided to save save save save save my ass off and give this time and see what happens.

Maybe try again in 2/3/4/5/6 months time :)

I've waited this long, I can wait 'a bit' longer :)

Maybe cut on booze and let go of the gf for the next 6 months. You'll save a lot I promise you. :)

Okay!

I just got a call and finance has been approved for a car which costs R50,000.
however, the repayments are way too much (R1550 ±) so I have resubmitted it another vehicle.

A 2002 Ford Bantam 1300 Leisure which is R32 500.

*sigh*

Not what I wanted but ... mmm... guess we'll have to see now.

dont purchase something ur not happy with. U are going to be paying this off for a while....

This brings back memories... my first car was bought out of impulse, and things just got better. My advice, Dont rush it!

im gonna throw a spanner in it now..

i hate cars! doesnt matter what car u buy.
u'll end up spending more money on the thing than u paid for it.. services, theft, accidents, new parts, etc etc. and u'll probably still be paying it off too. they'll make u more broke in the end.

my dream is to eventually not need a car.. live in a city where the public transport system isn't a joke, have a job i won't need a car for, buy a bicycle if i have to.

In your perfect world yeah - that might happen.
