My dogs are getting old and honestly thanks to things getting expensive, I think my old friends will be the last pets I will have. Harsh reality is pets are expensive and I love them so much that when I lose them it is starting to be to much for me. I guess I am getting old.

Enter the need for a CCTV system. I need it to be able to keep it alive when loadshedding hits. I want it to connect to it using a tablet eliminating the need for a dedicated screen. I don't want the cameras to be wireless because lighting gets bad here. I only need 4 camera feeds so it does not have to be big. Cables is not a problem. My budget is about R3k total. It is not a lot but I don't need to count the hair on someone's head. All I need to know is, is something in the yard or not, how many of them there are.

Recommendations?

Yeah pets are expensive. Still contemplating if we should get another one after our basset passed away in December. She cost us easily R3000+ a month and I don't have that money anymore. Not that I minded back then. I'll probably get another one.....

Oh, cameras. Because I prefer the ease of wireless cameras or PoE cameras, R3000 will probably just buy one or two, depending on quality and features you need. I enjoy the EZVIZ camera I have and would like to get more of them.

I have mine connected to my inverter, but you can probably just get a battery pack , similar to what you get for routers.

R3k is a bit of a stretch on the low side for a POE switch along with 4 cameras, but you could start setting things up with one or two cameras then add on to it.

I have a couple of DS-2CD1023G0E Hikvision cameras (8 of them now) connecting to a POE switch, started with 4, but once you have the system up and running adding cameras is easy. I couldn't find any cheaper POE cameras, which would be ideal to limit cable runs and complexity in your system that you want to go for

I must say that Hikvision is pretty good, not sure about other brands but the for the guard houses I have been in a lot of the time it's them. Good camera's and over-all a good system from what I can tell.
Ezvis I think would be maybe a 2nd, seen some of those also out in the field.

PoE is nice to have but they can get expensive.

Hikvision Turbo HD 8CH DVR
Not sure if I can use WiFi with this.

Space TV Professional Power Supply Unit - 12V 3A Regulated Box Type
Should keep 4 cameras going.

Hikvision 1920 × 1080 resolution, 2 MP Indoor Fixed Turret Camera
Birds can't build nests on them if installed correctly.

The wires and stuff I will just get from China Cash & carry. But if anyone can tell me if that 8Ch DVR can do wifi or not that be great. Otherwise I will see if I can get a 12V TV for the system.
Have you looked on local Secondhand Groups, Facebook Market place etc.? I've seen a couple of times where these are sold at cheap prices.

For your budget, an analogue kit is probably the way to go..

Check this out on takealot: Hikvision 720P HD 4 Channel Turbo HD CCTV DIY Kit

This allows you to view the feeds from the hikvision connect app..
