Well for a start, why don't they sign a 3G roaming agreement with Vodacom? Customers who do sign later with Cell C will be frustrated when they move out of coverage. Fall back on Vodacom would then be very useful.

Dont think it will be possible...the reason is Vodacom transmits 3G on the 2100 band and not on the 900 band as Cell C is planing to do.

hm so Notel is providing the backhaul. This the same company whose primary and secondary links to Seacom both failed and then they took a couple hours to switch the the tertiary link? Oh yes and they try brush it under the carpet by not answering any questions about it.

My first thoughts was to agree, but then I started thinking of what competition CellC provided in the past...

At least Vodacom have increased the bundle sizes for the old pricing....Cell C is still charging exactly the same rates but with the same data allocation and still only GPRS/EDGE. tsk tsk tsk

I was at cellc for 3 years and they are not good. They cannot keep accounts up to date and use to deduct money from my account although i gave then R7000 upfront.

So the device needs to be able to receive both bands then and be set to automatic network mode. Am I missing something?

It wont help, because Vodacom towers only transmits 3G on 2100 band.

Got 300mb for "free" when I purchased 2Gb for R 385.00. What a bargain.
Even though Vodacoms increased data allocations were not exactly what we were looking for, at least it was something. CellC has been sitting with old tech, old pricing (same as Vodacom & MTN) for how many years now??????? I would say pull your red polka dot thumb out your ass and decrease prices now so long to get people using your data services in the mean time. But that is just my opinion. Why wait to decrease pricing till the new towers is up and running???????
This was actually under discussion from the time that Vodacom launched 3G, but according to Cell C (at the time) the wholesale price per-MB was simply too high to sign such an agreement and build a business case around it.
More recent rumours in the market suggest that it may still be unfeasible. According to some industry guys the price per-MB for your own APN at Vodacom is in the region of between 35c and 55c per MB (unconfirmed – but this is not far off). This then still excludes your local & international costs and the like.
This means that the wholesale cost for access only is at least double the retail cost of full Internet access – very difficult to compete with Vodacom on these rates
They want to squeeze as much as possible out of the old empty cow, before the "new Improved" network is up....
