Cell C blames Vodacom for network problems

I really do believe what Cell C is saying is being misinterpreted.

They are not blaming the Vodacom network quality, they are merely stating that the handover isn't taking place the way it should and this is due to Vodacom in some way or another.

I believe the 97% coverage includes the roaming agreement.. but I cannot be entirely certain.

Yep, and it's not as easy as people think to 'build your own network' as it was for the companies that enjoyed monopoly or duopoly for so long. Besides, there's an agreement in place, why let Vodacom get away with shirking their responsibility? It looks deliberate if you ask me... deliberate or incompetence. Either way, Voda needs a good kick up the jack.

Rubbish! Is there a handover involved when you are +-600m from the tower? At full strength signal and no internet connection?Rubbish!

Cell C must sort out their network and quit relying on third parties. Their subscribers don't care about agreements with Vodacom - they want service from CELL C!!

I am so disappointed that it's July already and LTE is nowhere in sight! Not on any network. I live in the southern suburbs of Cape Town which I expected to be hooked up by now.

I'm tired of arsing around with slow download speeds. I am more than ready for 100Mbps!

I've picked up Cell-C LTE in Rondebosch and Claremont. They just haven't updated the LTE coverage maps on their site since December.

Funny! How can Cell C offer rock bottom data prices that put Vodacom under pressure but they use Vodacom's network? Something is twisted here. Shouldn't Cell C be charging prices that make it possible for them to plug the holes in their own network before trying to pull the market down with low prices?

What happened to Cell Cs awesome new more advanced network they keep raving about in their ads?
Lars was showing off at how fast their roll out was in PE and other parts of SA. Now they roaming on a competitors network, constantly trying to destroy the reputation of Vodacom, remember the red car and black car ad?
They paying a service fee to Vodacom to use the network, charging their customers almost nothing and paying a higher rate to Vodacom expecting to make a profit?
Huh?

I guess "UNSUSTAINABLE" is now becoming very clear.

Does this explain the no data even on full 3g signal though or is this about another problem? My phone never roamed on Vodacom unless I forced it to .....cause the signal never dropped low enough for it to switch in the areas I move around in .. but data was dead most of the time or extremely slow. I dont understand how this is Vodacom's fault. Even though Cell C has a 3G roaming agreement in place ... I dont think this is actually put to use in practice.....so 3G connections are all on Cell C's own network as far as I know? Has this changed?

As I understand the explanation, the 3G cell gets full and then you are suppose to roam on the Vodacom network. Now if that is the case, why then do I only get EDGE on the Vodacom network when I switch (which rarely happens) while Vodacom clients have full 3G access? Further, why does your 3G cells get full in the first place?

Cell C clients have never been able to.roam on vodacom 3g network.

Cell C.did sign a agreement to.enable.clients to.roam on voda 3g ... but it has not been "activated". Sorry..not sure of the correct word there.

Funny, could've sworn the way the 'roaming' works today is EXACTLY the same way it worked since 2001 when the roaming agreement kicked in........

I thought the network issue's people were experiencing on Cell C were on its own network towers being congested or something?

I thought you worked for VC??

I can attest to the handover being the issue, my desk is in a beautiful spot where I get handed to a fro from Cell C and VC, it is very bad. I sit for minutes at a time not properly on either.

I can see AKC's point, they buy a service from VC and are not getting what they pay for, considering the number of users they have been taking from VC and MTN (along with 8ta) I am not surprised these niggles are happening.

Mainly I just hope it gets resolved and Cell C can get to a point where they don't need the roaming. Their network coverage has and is improving, but wish they could go faster.

You clearly have insights into the relevant agreements.

Can you please explain what exactly was in the agreement and what Cell C "bought" from Vodacom they are not getting they're paying for?

I do remember stepping out a few times when we did the agreements, so might've missed you, but could've sworn you were not there. Clearly my bad.
