Cell C blames Vodacom for network problems

Most of it has been published here. Regarding the 'handover', as stated above it's EXACTLY the way it's always been. For more than a decade.

Interesting... you know I've been having trouble dialling Cell C users (almost always have to try a 2nd or 3rd time, from a Vodacom SIM) for a very very long time...

Never had the same with calling MTN users...

My wife moans about that all the time (VC) when trying to call me since I ported from VC to CC.

I thought you worked for VC??

I have mentioned a few times on mybb (as I have been asked this a few times) ... I dont work for Vodacom directly ... and I pay my own cellphone bill in full ... so I will go where I want. Main reason why I ported to Cell C was because of the RBM Moto Defy deal. I was in love with that little phone and it was a good deal ..... I can admit that. Also....it solved my signal issue I had where I was living at that time in Cyrildene. I was actuallyl very happy with them for a long time. Recently now I moved my number over to a month to month contract as I am very happy with my RAZR still and dont want to go into another 24 month contract ... so went on Sraight Up 100. A Month or so ago ... I started struggling with data on my phone. Full signal ... but no data. Tried both 2G and 3G. I use mostly WhatsApp these days ... not big into talking .... so it is important that my data work.

I am on a month to month usage only contract with Vodacom .... so maybe Telkom Mobile will be my next jump. Always good to know what the competition service is like ;)

this problem has been going on for many months and its only now that they have figured this out!

Surely they would have seen usage stats on their network(even via VC) go down which would directly affect revenue. So they were prepared to lose revenue all this time?

Their CellC rep on here does not even give us feedback even though inquiries were made by him.

Also, is it MYBB's way of pushing VC for comment by publishing this article before they responded. Just wondering if that's an ethical practice of writers.

Is it ethical? I guess that's not for me to say, but I don't see an ethical problem with bringing our readers the comment given to us by the CEO of a mobile network operator as soon as I conceivably can, especially when it was feedback on questions about widespread complaints we've received.

I can also say that in this case it was not to push Vodacom for comment, because VC has actually been really good about responding to our queries and lately they also respond faster than any other operator. It was really just about bringing you the news as quickly as possible.

It was also not about favouring one network over another because we will definitely publish Vodacom's feedback.

All the people here complaining about CellC. Do us all a favor and port :D

+1 although most of them complaining are working/affiliated with vodacom or dont use Cell C so the bias is obvious.

I'm with Cell C now for the last year or so and have no issues at the moment.Everything is just peachy, including my bank account.;)

Thank you Jan. makes sense

All you've proved is that Cell C has problems just like vodacom,MTN and 8ta.Still maintain I'm happy with the Cell C network in my areas.

I always tell people to try out a network with a pre paid card in the areas they frequent before switching to that network. There are some areas where one or two networks are great and the others are crap or non existent,it works this way with all of them.

ok .... but dont say it is only Vodacom employees and peeps with a agenda that is complaining. I was a actual Cell C customer until about a week ago ... I know what I experienced.

And as I have told others ... I was actually very happy up until recently. If it was not for this data issue (and struggling to get calls to connect ... and no ... not while roaming on Vodacom) then I might still be a client of theirs.

You an me both. I have R22 and 40Mb between myself and porting to 8ta. And my frustration today justifies it more. I was at mediatech at the dome. Full signal, no throughput. Calls only work on second or third attempt. Waze could not download map heat.

You clearly have insights into the relevant agreements.

Can you please explain what exactly was in the agreement and what Cell C "bought" from Vodacom they are not getting they're paying for?

I do remember stepping out a few times when we did the agreements, so might've missed you, but could've sworn you were not there. Clearly my bad.

Jannie you are being a twat - I can watch my phone handover from the Cell C tower to the VC one and see the issues it is having. That doesn't happen from VC to VC or Cell C to Cell C. Now simple business tells me it is not exactly in Cell C's interest to let this not work properly, most users would just see it as Cell C is not working properly like they don't realise EDGE roaming is only being used on the VC network.

You really should stop making snotty remarks like "I don't remember seeing you there", you embarrass yourself being so petty.

AKC was in charge back then, he noted Cell C were not aware of this, now as a service provider Cell C is a MASSIVE VC client, they should be able to expect VC to come to the party and do something that is allegedly not massively complicated (maybe that is downplayed - but eminently doable). Having to go to ICASA to lodge a formal complaint a big step. From an outsiders view it would not be taken if Cell C could not back it up. And before you make another stupid comment, no I don't know that for sure - I don't have a direct line to every CEO, CIO, CTO or the Vatican.

Ockie, sorry - I forgot.

You mentioned not working directly for VC - remember it now from a post quite a while back.

It is ok ... I am not sure why you are apologising ... I dont see you mentioning me anywhere? Did I miss something?:o

EDIT: Oh ok ... I see now ... sorry ... I am a bit tired. Need to go to bed obviously. I accept ... thank you.
