Howzit, Cell-C users. It seems that the free calls on the week-ends might never really be a good thing for the cell-c users after all. I have experienced Network busy signals the whole day on Trying to make calls to other cell-c users. Hope this is not a sign of things going down. It appears the joy was very short lived. I am in KZN. Please post your feedback.

Cheers

In Joburg Vodacom has the same problem. Was due to an faulty tower.

Their first excuse was Off Peak is "a busy time"

Just give CellC a call or email and the area you're in. It could be the tower.

Lol, the free calls is not useless. The tower can only handle an x amount of calls. Yours was not one of them. Too bad, try again later I would say. This will depend if your area's Tower is busy or not. Mine was not busy at all. :D

Yes I can report that I have been having a Woza weekend on CellC.

Called people in Cape Town ,KZN and Kimberley without any hassles.

Had problems lastnight cellc -> vodacom and cellc -> cellc. Around 8pm lastnight. Network busy errors.

Hmm, always amazes me how people bitch and moan about stuff they get for free....

Quickie:
How do you know the person you are calling is on CellC?
With MNP there was suppose to be a new system that would sound a tone right when you made the call to tell you that the current call is off-network. Dont know what happened to it. The current solution is to ask the owner of the number I think.

Exactly that happened! There is a blaring tone straight after dialling a ported number, I actually have to hold the phone away from my ear to avoid being deafened :p

Not moaning and Bitchin Guys

Sorry but maybe there is a misunderstanding about this whole thing. I could not get a call through to important business people to inform them that I was running late or change of plans. I had to purchase a mtn starter pack and airtime just to make those calls. Cell-C should have forseen that all MTN and Vodacom customers are going to go out and buy Cell-C starter packs just to use the free service on week-ends and choke up the network. A more realistic approach to something like this would be 120 free off-peak minutes per week Cell-C 2 Cell-C. That would keep the network stable and accessible to the loyal Cell-C customers. However Cell-C does not have many towers and many of the free calls are choking up our business calls. I hope they revise this promotion soon or else they will only be used for the freebies and lose many loyal subscribers. Come on Cell-C do some thinkin here.

Ok there is general feeling by Cell C contract users that this woza weekend is useless if you on a contract. or to put it another way, you are most likely to experience very little benefit because of the condition that you first have to use up your contract minutes. Therefore this special has zero impact on attracting contract customers (but of course this was not your intention).

So how about this Cell C:
In order to really shake up the mobile market why not make a serious impact in the contract market? Why not drop your Friends and family rates during peak hours from R1.50 to say R0.50c (and make this only Cell C to Cell C) - of course free over weekends (and not off your contract minutes)?

Now why would this attract customers? Because of all the families I know, the mom and dad have contracts and the kids are on prepaid. If you get the mom and dad on contract, you will get the kids on prepaid because mom and dad will have them on their "Friends and Family list."

So what ya think Celly?

frikkin brillant idea.....

say 5 numbers at a further reduced cost....cellc - cellc

Celtel’s 'Free Sunday calls' upset subscribers

Think they did try to avoid that in a sense. To make it over a weekend. Not as many businesses running on a Sat. and Sunday.

Celtel, had penultimate week, flagged off a promo campaign aimed at giving up to 120 free minutes worth of Celtel to Celtel calls between Saturday midnight and Sunday midnight to its new and existing subscribers who recharge with a minimum of N500 every week.

The promo attracted massive commendations, following its traditional meaningful promotional initiatives aimed at handing back to its teeming subscribers, part of what it makes from them, especially since the network rebranded to Celtel from Vmobile.

First part sounds like it happened here, the second part sounds more like Virgin Mobile ;) . I think this will only affect people living in certain areas. eg. Mine was never affected cause we are "small" if compared to JHB or Cape Town. Only time will tell how problematic this offer can be in the future. We will have to wait and see.

This is the end result in Nigeria - Celtel

Before the promotion started, Celtel probably had the best record in terms of call completions especially within its network. But in the last two weekends, with last weekend being the worst so far, a majority of the network's subscribers as well as that of other networks, had serious difficulties in reaching the network.
