Cell C is lying about MTRs: Vodacom, MTN

From R2-50 to 6c ..................per minute profit

Are you aware that mtn charges for sms delivery notice ?
People are moving to cheaper networks and time will tell ask mtn's group sifiso dawbenga what happens when you dont react to market forces

around half of the MTN anytime and topup package and pretty much all of the offpeak packages perhaps?

not everyone spends a grand a month on cellphone contracts and even then it's at least 20% more than I'm paying at cell C.

They can set their own prices when they abandon efforts to regulate the number of market players and when they pay back Telkom the benefits of asymmetrical CTRs imposed ...
 
I see a few, more sensible, people above picked up this is not about lowering MTRs. As posted, Vodacom even suggested to drop MTRs immediately.

Rather, it's about the asymmetry which is nothing but a tax from MTN/VC to Cell C.

Make no mistake, this is not about the consumer getting better pricing, it's about the very survival of Cell C. I implore you to listen and read the Cell C ads on this issue. And re-read their press statements. Even though the message implies reduced rates, the actual wording clearly states that reduced MTR will not necessarily result in lower rates. Cell C needs this money just to stay afloat. And they're not getting it from their shareholders. Ever wondered why?

I listened clearly, see I hear what they say not what Vodacom wants me to hear.
You guys have been ripping us off for years, its time to level the playing field and you are just scared because in the end, your profits will suffer. This lowering will give Cell C a chance to survive which is what they deserve.
I get it and so do the rest of SA. The time for you guys pulling the wool over our eyes is over. Unless of course the Judge rules in MTN and Voda's favour, nothing that a big chunk of cash cant sort out, I am sure ;)

Please quote the Cell C ad that states they WILL reduce call rates on the back of reduced MTR.

Cell C said in an official statement that the new rates will promote and foster a more balanced and competitive mobile industry to the benefit of consumers.

“By increasing its share of the market and putting further pressure on the dominant competitors, Cell C is confident it can drive access to more affordable communications for all South Africans, even those not on its network,” Cell C said.

See that Bold part? Thats what you guys are worried about. Its easy when you have no competition

Correct and in fact the legislation would result in higher MTRs for Vodacom/MTN when calling Cell C / TM.
Current MTRs are 40c. The proposed "cuts" would see Vodacom and MTN having to pay 44c...
Cell C and TM on the other hand would halve their payments to Vodacom and MTN (down to 20c).

It's been an effective marketing ploy from Cell C though - look at how many people have blasted Vodacom/MTN in this thread. Vodacom and MTN haven't handled this very well or the media hasn't been reporting fairly or both.

Cell C has said for a long time that they need 20% market share to be profitable. Coincidentally, this is the same market share required to benefit from the asymmetry.
I'm sure AKR will be getting a fat bonus if Cell C reaches that...

I believe Cell C is sitting on around 17% market share at the moment.

And, as per usual, you did not read what I posted, viz. Cell C needs the asymmetry to fund them, as Robert Pasley admitted in your quote above.

The problem is that MTN/VC have no chance to argue this in the public court when the attack is dressed up as pro-consumer. It's a stunningly good ploy by Cell C and is just another example why I rate AKC as one of the best strategists this industry has ever seen. In fact, he already put into place the initiatives to block what MTN/VC inevitably will do in response.

AKC been there and done that. he knows exactly hoe Vodacom runs and how to destroy them. he is always 1 step ahead of Vodacom.

I agree, he is a thorn in VC's side IMO.
Problem is I dont think he will be back, talk around is he is not well. I hope its false. We need him badly to shake things up.
