Cell C LTE not ready yet

Despite Apple recently adding support for Cell C’s LTE network on the iPhone 5, the operator is not yet ready to launch

I guess I fall into the "small group" seeing as I have not received the carrier update yet:(

Why not, their 3G does not work any more, so there is an urgent requirement for LTE !!!

Exactly, I'm completely happy with the speeds that I can get with 3G (5-10Mb), LTE is a luxury that most don't need. What we do need is an actual internet connection when we have full reception on HSDPA

Can someone explain why a USIM is neccessary before LTE will work ?
When GSM was already in use the specifications were further developed and enhanced with functionality like SMS, GPRS, etc. These development steps are referred as releases by ETSI. Within this development cycles the SIM specification was enhanced as well: new voltage classes, formats and files were introduced. In GSM-only times, the SIM consisted of the hardware and the software. With the advent of UMTS this naming was split: the SIM was now an application and hence only software. The hardware part was called UICC. This split was necessary because UMTS introduced a new application, the Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM). The USIM brought among other things security improvements like the mutual authentication and longer encryption keys and an improved address book.

Well they should roll back the update then, at least i will have GPRS/EDGE back, and actually connect to the internet

I get zero throughput on a good 3G connection.
I am happy to say that my Cell C 3G connection is usable most of the time when I need it and that I have no intention to switch to their LTE connection, when it arrives. Lucky? Maybe.
The dongles cost too much, anyway.

I had to plug my phone into iTunes to get the carrier update, it did not show up just by refreshing the phone. Still on 3G even with LTE is turned on though.

Read my post slowly. Go to Settings, General, About and it will then force a carrier update check if you want to have to plug into iTunes.
