Poor competitors....

Those fat cat profit margins will have to take a real dive to become competitive.

Cell C now have the chance to create one of the largest shake ups the mobile Internet industry has seen in years, provided these deals really happen.

I agree !

i have to agree.

But i doubt all this hype is true. If a tower is connected via fibre and directly via fibre 2 seacom or sat 3. About 500 users can be accomodated via the SHARED model per tower. This is excellent news for South Africa if its true. But think of the economic loss for:

MTN
VODACOM
TELKOM
NEOTEL
IBURST
ISP's

This might be a bad mouthing scam 2 discredit Cell - c

I calculated a revenue loss of R50 Billion per MONTH by ALL operators combined.

Now if we know how business operates it makes commercial sense for all the other operators to pay Cell-c R5 Billion once off to keep their prices high.

Now I'm getting some picture:
Cell C will get upgrade expenses paid by other providers.
That's why they "leaked" pamphlet so other providers had time to realize "possible losses" and prepare to pay.
Simple. :rolleyes:

Please show us your calculations how you got to this loss of R50 Billion per MONTH?

You do know you (or your calculator) are completely delusional?

A really dark perspective, yet unsurprising.

This will test whether Cell C truly is a peoples champion network.

I suppose this will do the most damage to Telkom with its fledgling mobile campaign and low usage ASDL users looking to this deal as well..........

Of course the government doesn't want to see Telkom get buggered up anymore either.

Your theory spurs all kinds of nasty possibilities DXL.

Thanks for the insight.

huh, I think you are a few zeros off.

huh, I think you are a few zeros off.

Here's the math's :

MTN = 400 000 Data users x R200 per month = R8 0 000 000
VODACOM = 800 000 Data users x R200 per month = R16 0 000 000
TELKOM = 700 000 ADSL Users x R250 per month = R17.5 0 000 000
NEOTEL = 100 000 Data Users x R200 per month = R2 0 000 000
IBURST = 100 000 Data Users x R200 per month =R2 0 000 000
ALL -ISP's = 150 000 Data Users x R100 Per month = R1.5 0 000 000

This is NOT profit Guys but Turnover...................................

Correct me if i am wrong

Assuming those numbers are close to the truth, that comes to roughly 4.7 billion a year. How that translates to the real world in terms of profits is anybodies guess.

One thing to keep in mind is that clever mobile companies will still be able to milk their customers for R200-300 a month. They will just need to give them more intangibles for the money. This doesnt mean in the long term they will make alot less money, its just that at the moment telkom is ripping them a new one on backhaul and artificially increasing the price of the "intangibles". As they get off telkom and onto their own fiber, their profits will return.

Cell c is going to compete by giving us more "intangibles" at a lower cost to them because they have less legacy.

It's supposed to be R15'000'000.

On topic:
If they indeed going to put such pricing, there is chance to spark price war.

If Vodacom could quit spending such a huge chunk of their turnover on advertising and sponsoring, of everything from frog races to grannies knitting races, then we could probably get our data at half price

They want to remain the number one operator by being visible and the biggest.

I will buy freaking two of those R1999 per year boys if that is true. If this is true and I have coverage I will be as happy as a pig in ****

Pricing in the mybb article is correct, however my sources confirmed it's only a short term promotional offer i.e. from August to October;
It's also apparent that only certain coastal areas will be ready for full HSPA+ speeds at launch.

So far I have not been unable to source any details on their mid to long term pricing plans.

For the bigger country, they run on Vodacom's back.

actually they handle most of their customers calls on their own network.
the figure i had in '05 was 84% on their own network. must be close to 95% by now

You Buy 3 x R1999 data modern = R5997/12 = R499 per month give you 15 GIGs
