Cell C Network Issues: Disconnects, Coverage, Throughput Problems - Report Here

I was thinking to switch over to Cell C from 8ta, but it seems Cell C suffers from the same problem. Is the common denominator here not telkom as i believe all towers have to tie into telkom infrastructure at some point? Does telkom not have a problem with it's network?

Centurion - Highveld.
Every second call connects (I get charged), but you can't hear the other person. You put down and call again, and it works. I'm ready to murder someone! Anyone in Highveld that's not on CellC that can give some feedback on which provider to move to that doesn't have issues here?

Phone calls drop after 10 seconds, and the voice quality is impossible. you only hear every 2nd or 3rd word. Already starting the process of paying the penalties to move some of my numbers away from Cell C.

Hardly any internet connection today. I'm experiencing this pathetic internet connection for the 15th week now. Trouble tickets are opened & closed.
Are they ever going to fix this or is this going to drag on forever.

Absolutely unacceptable & shocking. I honestly cant believe all of this madness is still going on.
 
Type of service (pre- or post-paid): per paid (giga 200)
Location: Plumstead (cape-town southern suburb)
Time of Issue: since beginning of May
Dongle / handset used, Make and Model: ZTE MF 886 or with router Duxbury Dux412
Speed test:

The connection will just disconnect automatically. Sometimes it's on for just a few seconds befor automatic disconnection and sometimes it works for 30 minutes. When I use the router I can see clearly when the connection disappears and it sometimes looks to me that when I open the internet browser, the connection disappears. (Internet browser or any program that connects to the Internet when opened. Use opera, IE and Firefox) but I can Skype with people in the Netherlands with no problem or disturbance. Maybe coincidence maybe not...
I got a ipad2 and laptop and both the same problem.
When I have Internet the speed is as normal (normal is for me fast)

I saw more people had problems in the Plumstead area and all over South Africa. So it's not a isolated issue. I hope the problems can be resolved soon. I've always been happy with cellc and already use it for Internet for 3 years. But this automatic disconnection really is unacceptable. I haven't been able to use the Internet for 3 weeks now! And typing/ sending this thread took me also a couple of hours to be able so send it.

SO FRUSTRATING



Hmm maybe it's coincidence, maybe not.
But 5 hours after I posted this thread the inetrnet connection is back to normal.
Normal speed and no sudden disconnection.

Lets hope it stays like that

My speed the last 3 days, from max 6Mbps to 0,02 Mbps to 3G to E to No Service to anything.
Went to Cell C and apparently they are upgrading the towers, which explains the
6 Mbps, cos if it works, it's pretty fast.
Enough to watch Netflix.

Just changed from 8ta as 8ta is still at 3,2 Mbps max in four ways / Lonehill.

Problem still persists. 16 weeks of cr**py network & counting. I was told the towers are currently being upgraded & should wait until end of this month to see if theres any improvements. Well, this is May & i was told the same in April.

Maybe when its June, i will be told the same again.
Typical Cell C, always giving their customers false hope
 
This BS is getting a bit much now.

I have Cell C bundles at home (Illovo, Joburg), and with close relatives in East London (Gonubie) and Tzaneen.

None of them work, all have good reception, but zero throughput.

I have had to replace the Gonubie and Illovo bundles with Vodacom, and the Tzaneen one with 8ta.

So WTF do I do with all this unusable Cell C data ???

And I still have two Giga200 bundles that are not yet RICA'ed - maybe I should just sell those at a loss, and bin the others.
 
I first started experiencing the problem in Boksburg in March 2011. I have phoned their call centre every single month, each time they tell me the issue was fixed and the call closed so I open a new one. I have complained on Hellopeter and they responded by saying Bongani will look into it but I never heard from the guy. A few months back someone promised that he will escalate the issue to their network manager, guess what? Never heard from him again and when I finally tracked him down he said the call was closed and sorted out.

The entire East Rand is screwed. Most days I get no data flow whatsoever even with full signal, other days I get kicked over to Vodacom Roaming which also has no dataflow. If I run PING for a while I get about 98% packet loss and the packets that do make it back have anywhere from 12 to 360 SECONDS latency. It happens on my phone and my dongle.

CellC has made no effort in over 2 years to fix this. I will be cancelling both my phone and data contract with them but of course Vodacom, the only other signal I have at my house seems to be doing the same lately from tests I have been doing with my wife's phone.

I do not see why we should pay fo no service even when there is coverage. Contracts state that service is coverage dependant and they can not be held liable for low coverage, but what if there is full signal and NO service?

Anyway, I will not be phoning CellC again, I will not log another god damn call that they can quietly close. I will instead be writing letters to every news station and paper and I encourage others to do the same. CellC will continue to ignore the problem until there is a public outcry and embarrassment for them.

To those few who do not have a problem, consider yourself lucky but know that this will spread to you soon as the network gets more and more congested. Do not make the mistake I did, renewing my contracts thinking it is just a temporary issue. It has been 2 years for me now and getting worse.

So please, make a noise, call the radio shows, write to the papers. Posting to some lackey on this site will not solve anything.
 
I'm having the same problem. There is a tower near my office in Strijdom Park which has excellent reception but no data throughout.

How do I query the tower id because the towers around it have no problems. My issue is specific to one tower in my area.

I'm feeling it particularly today because Telkom messed up the office ADSL line today and will only be fixed by tomorrow.
 
Something seems to have paid off, last night I had a Call C antenna installed above my desk where I work. It doesnt seem to be connected yet but I'm sure it will improve the situation in Simmonds street. One wonders how you request an in building base station for those of us in more congested areas.
 
all i can say is thank god we did a Cell C pilot project before converting to them.
i work for a big corporate in JHB CBD. and our manangers need to be connected constantly.
the 3 pilot numbers we signed are now sitting in a draw being unused (soon to be cancelled). they totally useless as both a voice and data services.
promises made by Cell C to rectify signal issues in our offices within 6 weeks were not kept.

Cell C is a perfect example of a company destroying its own image and goodwill.

Was in Carletonville this weekend visiting my parents and the in-laws and I was shocked that I had absolutely no 3G/HSDPA coverage (at either houses) the entire weekend. Pathetic to be honest. My S3 "smartphone" was reduced to a 3110. I don't know if they were down or what but if this happens again I'm moving back to the red team. I'd rather pay more for something that actually works.

I am not asking for 2Mbps download speed or anything I am just asking for a useable internet connection.

20:00 2013/05/28 : Nothing has changed for me, 0 throughput I can not even open google on my phone, in the mornings it works but then I don't need it, I mostly need my phone's internet to work between 18:00 and 21:00 + weekends.

I have practically given up on Cell C but I still hope they fix it as my contract ends soon and they still offer the best deals on phones.

Dear Cell C, its been 5 months since I've logged Ref# 1730495.

I would like to inform you that the problem has not been solved, I test from time to time with hope that you would have fixed the problem, it is 20:19 and I can not open even google.co.za (I cant get emails WhatsApp or use any internet based apps).

I have used cell c data for about 4 years and for the most part never had problems at my current residence. If you have allowed you network to become over subscribed you should upgrade it.

I have installed many 8ta "PSB" & cellc "Giga" data sims all running successfully at 3 to 12 Mbps DL X 1 to 3 Mbps UL so u may want to look at telworld.co.za
 
Cell C phoned me yesterday morning to tell me that they had upgraded the local tower.

It worked a bit better for about 4 hours after that, now back to normal, ie not working.

I have loads of Cell C data that I cannot use.

Bought another Vodacom 20GB special this morning.
