lol.

iPhone 5 went on sale in China and they sold a couple of million phones. South Africa where they only need about 20 thousand phones and no one has stock.

Lame. They said they're probably only getting stock next year because "all the couriers are closed"

So whats going on with this? I signed the contract on Friday and the Cellc store didnt have stock. Now the guy at the store cannot guarantee me I will get the special as he doesnt know how many units have been sold nation wide. He also has no idea when they will get stock. So frustrating, feel like signing with someone else.

So i dont think it was just a day/1000 customer thing, i ordered mine online, if they come with some BS, i will just sign up to the S3 - Straight up 100, which was the original plan :p
But one way or the other, i'm signing with CellC, they have the best contract deals, i mean 99c out of bundle minutes, the actual ANY time minutes that can be used ANY time, and not stupid 20 anytime minutes and 100 weekend minutes or BS like that (Thanks Vodascum, nothing i enjoy more that having 600 minutes on my name i cannot use)

Was lucky enough to get one of three units at my local store.

Cell C is not at fault here, they of course desire to sell billions more contracts, but SA always get the shortest end of the stick when it comes to worldwide stock allocation.

At the moment there is a shortage of these phones across the globe, so you basically have two choices:

1.) Wait it out.

2.) Import a phone from overseas.

No amount of rattling on Cell C, or any other supplier's cages will hasten the process until Apple ramped up their production to satisfy the demand.

+1

i dont hold CellC responsible for this.
My problem with CellC this far has been the whole signup process, when i called the branch, they told me i need 3 months bank statements, pay slip, proof of residence and copy of ID, so later that day when i called to signup, they did not ask for a single one of these things, but at the end of the call the salesman said congrats on your new contract????, besides that, i did not receive a confirmation email, so i have absolutely no proof that i even signed up for this specific contract....

Yes same here. Seems that if you go to a branch and do it, then you need a copy of all those things, but if you sign up over the phone, then you don't.

But where is the logic in that??, it honestly just does not make sense, but if that is the case its fine with me, it saves me a trip to the bank :D

Those of you wondering I just received an SMS confirming my order as well as a reference number. I hope that these past few days were included in the waiting time for the phone. I am still stuck with an HTC Wildfire (non S) so yeah need my new phone soon!

Did you order over the phone, or go into a branch and sign up?

I haven't received any confirmation yet...

Edit: Nevermind, I see in the previous page that it was done over the phone.

Hi,

Both myself and a colleague at work phoned on the 14th, and ordered the 16GB phone for 399/month.

She got her phone delivered this morning, and mine is due to be delivered tomorrow.

Seems like they do have phones... and are getting through the orders...

Also FYI - got a call from Telkom asking if its OK if they phone me tomorrow/monday as they are launching their 8ta Iphone 5 deals soon soon... apparently different from what was published online. THey also said their shipment of phones is due to land before Monday.

So phones are here... i think you must just place your order...

@Maverick Jester: This is one of the reasons why one company can continue overcharging customers even though there is a clearly more superior product already in the market at a much lesser price. That is just so sad...:p

I just signed up for the iPhone5 16gb deal today. Was told to expect delivery +-15 working days! Are there going to be more shipments made this year? Or will deliveries only start again next year? I know it's a shot in the dark asking here but the people you chat to on the phone when signing the contract aren't the most clued up bunch!
