Cellc LTE-A on S8

I just remembered something interesting. My room mate has a Samsung S6 Edge too but he says he never saw 4G+ on the S6 when using Cellc.

Is it possible that that the samsungs don't support 4G+ on Cellc?

I'm thinking that for some reason the S8 does not support 4G+ on the band that Cellc has it on. That is the only thing that can explain this.
Thinkng the same. For LTE-A in FDD mode (which Cell C use) handset must support both bands in LTE-A mode. Some devices even they support all LTE bands, only some bands combination activates LTE-A mode. Cell C hac not typical bands assignment, I expect it is a reason why is working with Vodacom, not Cell C.

Yeah I think so too but I don't have enough knowledge to point finger at the exact cause. I also do not have a device that is confirmed to be working on cellx so I can put them next tk each other to rule out a coverage issue.

I can't find info on the S8 to confirm exactly what bands the lte a will work abd what not.

Cellc just advertise s8 as lte advanced capable without confirming if their lte advanced actually works with it.

Tested Vodacom 4G+ works fine. Today I tested Tlkom and 4G+ works fine on the s8 with Telkom too.

Yeah so basically tested all networks. Vodacom, MTN, Telkom all work with LTE-A on the S8. Cellc DOES NOT!

Interesting story. Your S8 version is probably G50F Europe/Global. It would be helpful if you (or someone else) could test it with US/China version and then bring a question to Samsung.

Did you get phone from Cell C?

Yes G950F S8 that I got with Vodacom.

What a painful experience with Cellc but we know now that 4G+ will only be displayed on Samsung devices that have Cat6 LTE and a minimum of 20MHz combined bandwidth.

Cellc has already asked for an amendment to these minimum requirements which Samsung approved and firmware update is expected to be released soon for non Vodacom/Vodafone Samsung devices.

I knew it was you. ;)

Haha once something like this comes up for me it's hard for me to just leave it it bugs me non stop. I also have a nice direct line contact for Cellc networks now. :D

Checking on the CellC website, the following phones are LTE Advanced capable:
Either the website has not been updates in 4 months, or the S8/S8+ are not LTE Advanced capable.
Their coverage map shows we have LTE Advanced in our area, but the best I get is 4G at 3G speeds.

Customer care just keeps on telling me no I don't qualify for airtime advance..... :wtf:

Hi cavedog

Emergency Airtime and Auto TopUp is available to all Prepaid and TopUp customers who;

Have been on the Cell C Network for a minimum period of 2 months prior to the date of request for Emergency Airtime.
Have recharged with R20 per month on average for last 2 months.

^SM

Geez, Cell_C support are indeed morons!

It is LTE Advanced capable but Cellc network is just uhhmmm how can I say useless. Samsung approved the changes to have bandwidth requirements changed. There was an update but it did not fix the issue.

Cellc after my intense investigation said my S8 was connecting to LTE A but not showing it. I dispute this because they are refusing to provide me with proof that they claim they have.

As you can see from your speedtest above those are speeds from a Cellc congested LTE network. There is not many LTE A devices out there so I highly doubt that their LTE A can be so congested to give less than 10Mbps.

And if you test with the friends Huawei in same spot and time?

I only have access to 2 s8 and 1 s6 EDGE none of them pick up LTE A and all get about the same speeds to the same server just a few minutes apart.

The Huawei Mate 9 was someone on facebook in Centurion I was messaging after I saw his post on cellc facebook page showing off his LTE Advanced speedtest of 90Mbps+ and saw 4G+ icon.

Drove to where he took the speedtest and I could only get like 20Mbps max.

Cellc is lying all the way. Samsung simply does not activate CA on Cellc it seems.
