Cellular providers ready for war

I don't know if this question was already asked, but there goes:

After the number portability comes into affect, how will I know, when phoning a cellular number, what network the person I'm calling is on.

This is important to know, since this effects how much I pay for the call.

Previously one could deduce this from the number (082,083,084,etc.).

I used to phone up Vodafone in the UK and ask them is this number on ur network?

Essentially, you won't know. Only possible way at the moment is to try and divine it from the different ringing sounds the networks use. Something might be put in place eventually I suppose but there's nothing at the moment.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction. It is interesting that not much has been said by the Operators about this... one can only guess why?

PS: will email them all today, and see if I can get a response.

Update:

MTN:

Q: How will I be made aware of when I am calling a number not belonging to the same network as me?
A: If you are calling a number that is not on the same network as you but has the same network prefix, a warning tone will be played indicating that this is an “off-network” call.

Vodacom:

No information regarding above issue provided. Guess it would be the same as MTN?

Warning tone se m**r!!! Virgin charge a single flat rate according to what plan you choose :)
It's so simple

Nobody wants to watch the clock all day to save on calls. That’s why we don’t have ‘peak’ or ‘off-peak’ rates. It doesn’t matter if you call someone who has a different service provider -we don’t have ‘cross-network’ charges either.

Big Nail in MTN/VodaCom/CellC cross network (holy cow) rates with Virgin saying they charge the same irrespective of network.
