Clareinch (Claremont Exchange) Congested

Still mixed feelings about the MSAN situation. Stability yes, but remember everyone will most probably want a higher speed now. And you know what that means.

I get what you're saying but I'd taking being connected to a nice new shiny MSAN over some old crusty dslam any day. Simply because newer tech > older tech. I'm not saying the MSAN will never have congestion issues but I just feel that since it's newer it should be able to handle the load better. *shrugs* Dunno that's just my opinion, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

So I noticed my speeds were a bit on the low side so I decided to check my router settings and I discovered my beautiful 10 meg line was running at 6 meg! Anyone else from Clareinch been bumped down?

Last few nights (maybe a week) have noticed speed degradation between the infamous 5pm to 10:30ish pm slot... am on Telkom uncapped right now.... wondering if i should try afrihost or some other isp?

I'm still new to DSL... so thinking of just riding it out for a while...

The only reason im concerned is if i actually do plan to do streaming... but if htis continues then i guess it wont be an option :-(

I've also started to notice, I live in the area and the problem has started getting worse in the last few days. Can't game at all with pings like these.

I live in Kenilworth and think I am on the Clareinch 10 DSLAM sector. Since Teklom repaired there DSLAM problem a week or two ago I am experiencing terrible latency and almost continuose buffering on Netflix at peak hours from around 5.30 pm. I have no issue watching Netflix during the day. I am on a 4MB adsl line. I am sure that the Exchange is so heavily congested at night that there Internet pipe from the dslam drops to a triclke on bandwidth. Too many users and limited BAND WIDTH. MY ADSL LIne speed is fine after hours but hectic buffering after hours. I am trying to get Telkom to put me on a different DSLAM and DSLAM port. I am starting to get crazy phoning the help line all the time. how do I get hold of a higher level support person who can tell me what they can do to sort out there bandwidth problems? The call center is useless.

We're on an iMax card and it makes no difference. Performance is really bad even until early morning. We believe it's the shaper putting the squeeze on limited bandwidth. Nobody at Telkom is prepared to change it.

Shaper? We're talking about the exchange not what's going on at the ISP? Maybe I'm confused about something.

I only communicate with their social media team. Don't waste your energy on the call center.

Mines been up since the last latency incident. Do keep in mind, clairinch is shared between an MSAN and a DSLAM. Both are monitored and share bandwidth load - This was the solution to the crap latency we had. That's why resetting your router is a risk. You might just end up getting routed to the DSLAM.

Am I the only one with high ping tonight? 100 ping to most SA servers and to google.co.za.

ping to google.co.za is normally 30-32

Am ok, but do have some instability. Local pings between 10-50ms and Euro pings between 150-250ms. Load shedding may have an impact, but that's pure speculation on my part.

It's doing funny things for me tonight atm. Ping drops directly to 5 ping to google, then bumps up to 100 ping. My line is def. not stable atm.

Anyone else experiencing huge packet loss on the exchange tonight?
This is my Telkom Mobile:

It could be possible that equipment has been modified and is currently not responding to icmp traffic.

When did you notice the exchange not responding?

My one office is in Claremont, started having issues about 7AM this morning already.
We asked Telkom for fibre - didn't get it, now we are moving to Black River park, they have 100MB :D
