Does WBS know about this Forum?

Maybe i'm a bit naive but surely a "service provider" is just that? Someone that provides a service. The service is definetly not just limited to the technological side but should also cover the softer issues, ie customer interaction, information flow between the supplier and the customer etc.. And so i can go on. If WBS cannot see the importance of this, even during the trail phase of keeping their customers informed, then they should either fire the person responsible for this, or hire someone that is capable of putting these types of systems and processes in place. If they can afford me, they can hire me. :)

I think most South African companies are incapable of providing decent support to thier customers - yet it's so damn easy.

I find it uncanny that a hi-tech wireless company has such a rubbish website.
In the case of Iburst, one that's been offline for 48 hours.

The Website should be the FIRST line of customer support for an ISP and can effectively run itself !

To not use this to your advantage is crazy - absolutely crazy.

90% of the support content can be static, the rest can be updated so damn easily if the correct backend is in place.

A basic support tech guy can paste "Tower xyz is currently experiencing problems, we are busy working on it" into a browser text box and submit it to be live on the site in 5 seconds !!!

A bog standard mailing script can send a message out to all subscribers in the time it takes to type it and hit send.

I tell ya, the wealth of experience in different areas we have on this board could see us managing a wireless ISP 100 times better than most these bloody companies, at least in terms of support.

WBS, your website needs attention ! - it can save you a fortune if applied correctly !

like i said, would love a blowie....

or cancel

your choice

BTW, single handedly, I increased a company's sales online from 800k to 23.5mil a month. It is now more profitable for them than their own call centre....

Im also busy with another CRM project....

Like bb_matt says, (and I thought he was mentioning me by name by saying that), I have more experience in **** like this than this whole internet combined

modest? no... vein....

Good call mate - that's where it's at - but companies aren't prepared to pay for decent employees - they are run by the money men and end up hiring for peanuts, meaning they get - well, you guessed it.

I've been forced to run my own business because companies simply cannot pay me what I'm worth - what they would offer me in salary is a slap in the face compared with what I can earn with my own operation.

I'm actually shocked what I would get offered as a salary and the fact that I would be expected to work overtime for mahala.

Fsck that ! - I'm consolidating my company, ditching my CV for good and no longer thinking in terms of "staff mentality"

As a one-man-show, I provide my clients an A1 service - so what the **** can't these big companies ?

Call Center Improvements

Hey Guys, guess what, this evening i tried to call Tsepo hoping he will still be there up around 23H10, guess what there is finaly a massage that tells us of the times the call centre is open, thats quiet an improvement. Well i would also like to say thanks to tsepo for helping me out and he has actualy been keeping me intouch as i had signal problems, he promised to call and he has been doing just that. It seems as if things are brightining up for WBS, cause if they are it simply means even on our site things will work out fine. Thanks once more to Tsepo. :rolleyes:

Thats good to hear, I think WBS is listening to what we have to say. It may take a bit long to see the results but at least there are results. WBS you can do it!

Just to let you all know the new PABX system is in place. Yes I know there are a few glitches but they will be fixed today.

Dylan

calling an average ping to google @ 3000ms a few glitches?

calling having to keep pinging a website in the background to keep your IRC from not timing out (or your MSN Messenger) alive? a few glitches?

oh.. well, excuse me mr.sihen... not good enough.

Remember, most of us are in IT.

If you tell us the thinga mabob in the thingy magik with the woohoo and the lala broke, we would understand :D

Does anyone know what bandwidth wbs has purchased from UUNET? To the tower they claim 1mbit, which is fine... I noticed yessterday after 6pm the speeds totally dropped...when everyone went online. It raises teh question of whether there is sufficient BW?????

how do you know if everyone went online after 6pm? This is suppose to be 24/7 connectivity, unlike dialup. I for one download right throughout the day if possible....

Apparently they can have 2000 users downloading and uploading at full speeds before we see a degraded service. My money is on that they've reached and surpassed this point and is now scurrying to optimize their systems to handle the strain. If they can do that, after the cap, they could probably have twice as many users with the same amount of bandwidth going...

I use iBurst at work and at home, so I'm online all the time. Speeds during the day [albeit with a stronger connection] are quite acceptable with downloads maxing the connection [thank you GetRight :D], but at night I wonder. That said, last night my signal was 3-4, and connectivity was fine, thank you. I also installed LiveCon to automate [and slow down] the keep-alive ping.

Code:
[size=3]
    Minimum = 60ms, Maximum =  1352ms, Average =  83ms[/size]

ic, why are your average ping figures always too low? Clearly 83ms cannot be an average.

ic said:
Actually it is very simple - that average only applies to the echoes actually received, so Request timed outs do not factor into this as there is no latency to count - call those: undefined latency.

I hope that makes sense, I'm not sure I've explained it properly ;)

To only get a low 83ms average when the fastest was 60ms, and the slowest 1352ms is inconceivable.

The latest one you did, with a lower error percentage goes up to an average of 254ms - more reasonable, but probably still to low.

You explain it fine, but even with your explanation, I don't think your ping is calculating the correct average. Maybe it is taking the total time taken for received pings, and dividing by the total number of pings sent, so the more errors there are, the lower the average ping.

If that's the case, you can obtain the "correct" average by multiplying it by the quantity sent and dividing by the number received - That way it only considers the successful pings.

So in the last case 254ms x 2361 sent / 1683 received = 356ms.

On the other hand, your ping might just be completely screwed up. ;)

Yep look at these timings:
Ping statistics for 196.25.1.200:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 926ms, Maximum = 1666ms, Average = 1243ms

Ping statistics for 196.30.31.120:
Packets: Sent = 3259, Received = 3052, Lost = 207 (6% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 45ms, Maximum = 4485ms, Average = 197ms

Unacceptable
