could be that the base station is up but you are blocking the signal with your SABC signal because you paid your TV license...

yes you did, everyone knows you did...

Hi Gents

I got iBurst today and was not that impressed. Does anyone know if they plan to implement more towers?
I am in Weltevredenpark so I must be feeding of Northcliff. Also get 98% signal, but the quality sucks, ping gives me droped packets and 2000ms replies from 196.7.142.132.

Is adshell maby still a better option?

I'd say hang on for a month or two.

Cause, if they rock if it works... if they sort things out its going to be cool.

And, waiting a month or so would see the release of UUNET's uncapped unshaped ADSL offering, where you buy your own realm and jump right onto THEIR backbone (not saix, even though everyone else sells ADSL accounts, all roads lead to rome at this stage)

Other than that, I suggest you emigrate. Best of luck

It is naive to expect of any self-respecting company that they use a public forum like this, over which they have no control, for their notice board. They have to make their own plan, and fast.

This forum should have a very valuable function as a presdure group, although AFAIK no results, as far as iB, have materialised to date.

Wow, that's really informative. :p

So you do have news of the antenna's? But are not telling...

Or are you still having a public pm with ic?

iBurst e-Mail

For those who have not yet received it:

"We are aware of the degraded service experienced by many iBurst users in recent weeks, and we can understand the frustration this has caused. We sincerely apologise for this, and we are attending to these issues with priority attention.

As part of this innitiative we are implementing a new notification facility to keep our users informed of incidents on the network. This will be available on our webpage in the coming days.

The pre-commercial phase is intended primarily as a test phase to identify network issues under realistic load conditions. Some areas of concern have been highlighted during this period. WBS is using this period to implement measures to avoid such problems and ensure that the full commercial rollout is successful. The iBurst team is committed to provide you, our valued subscriber, with a premier broadband experience.

We thank you again for your enduring support."

I notice there is a subtle shift from pre-launch to pre-commercial. Deliberate or accidental?

I didn't get any mail either. Maybe we got lost in the tons of paperwork being done by their one accountant :rolleyes:

er, here is something for WBS

Code:
...setup your connection to your database

SQL = "Select * from tbl_Users"
Set rs = connection.execute(SQL)
If rs.eof or rs.bof then
response.write "no users in your database, you are a dumb ****"
else
do while not rs.eof
set objmail = "whichever mail component you like"
objmail.recipient = rs("email")
objmail.sender = "[email protected]"
objmail.body = "pre-rendered html message here"
objmail.send
set objmail = nothing
rs.movenext
loop
set rs = nothing

there... now you have code to send everyone in your database an email... customizing the mail to their account details won't be that hard either, but it's a start

Heres the deal, f#ck IBusrt. How dare they squeeze my peer to peer speeds becaue there is no cap!

Who the f#ck do they think they are!?

They bitch and say 3gigs is the cap because bandwidth is expensive, but I had a 56k standard dialup with WOL. I used the R7 call more thing and in a month I would crack up 7 + gigs of download, all that bandwidth for R150 per month without tiscali squeezing or bitching.

Truth, IBURST is money hungry, greedy, and will follow all the other companies with their 3 gig **** so they can get in the queue with all the other companies in sa while they ass rape us with their crappy service and rediculous prices, and stupid ideas (like a 3 gig cap!).

On top of that my speed have been ***a all month , cannot surf properly, cannot email.

Enough is enough, I will cancel tomorrow and go back 56k until some idiot can offer us here a good service that is worth it.

I have confirmaion from WBS that we will be sharing peer to peer bandwidth until the cap comes in. So woo hoo to all of you. F#ck it, cannot wait to emmigrate and get the hell out of this dysfunctional country!

well unfortunately you are in this country and this is simply the better service available or woudl you rather pay R1100 for dsl + line rental fee????

anyhow seeing as this is a compliments I must give a BIG hand out to the a specific front line grunt (under heavy fire from me) that answered my call! I have seen a big improvement in my speed plus a decent connection for using skype!

Thanks a million. After bitching and moaning and if this service is what it's expected. Keep it up and plz remember to keep us informed!!!

Thanks

Well, I've entered last year's lottery, if I get my greencard I'm definately f@cking off for a couple of years.

The fact of the matter is, because I'm in information technology, I NEED broadband, decent broadband, which doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I know I say I download porn with it, and sometimes I seriously do. Most of the time it's for work purposes...

*sigh* I think I'm outgrowing South Africa. And I feel that alot of South African's that did emigrate already (and has titles like "Rocket Scientist") felt the same way.
