When the fiber is installed, are the units each able to use their own ISPs?

My body corporate is just finding out, but thought I may get a faster answer here. I know we have selected Initio360 which did the install and offers the service, but should I choose to use someone else - can I?

A quick google and it does not appear that theses guys are open access.

If they installing in the complex, you might not have a choice - they may have a 6 or 12 month exclusivity deal and after that free for all. Stuff like This should have been advised to you guys?

I think they use Metrofiber - I thought any ISP can bolt on? Wasn't sure about Open Access, but I'll read more

Erk :/

Mails did go out and they mentioned they selected ; but I didn't think it was exclusive. Back then I had no issue using them but with their recent lack of all communication I'm a little worried. Others have said they're ok but my experience hasn't been positive so far

Sounds like the Greencom/metrofibre deal, where greencom have a period of exclusivity before mfn open up the network.

Note to anyone in a complex looking for fibre, check if the fibre provider is really, for real, open access...

Normally that is the case if Metro installed the termination points in the complex and then each unit needs to connect to those points at their own costs (+/- R1800), and then the ISP come in and offer you that free (or discounted) if you sign with them , but i notices some complexes take an ISP for the whole complex and they get 'perks' like cameras or some thing for free

At least you got fibre

That's the problem ... I don't!

They've been in the complex 4 months so far and in the beginning they, at least, told us of delays they've had.

Now though, they're dead silent, which worries me. Initially we were due to go live July and then August. We received out last 'delay notice' on the 30 August and nothing since ... no update or anything. I'm not even sure they're still working there or even in still in business.

I've mailed them the 20th and 30th September, as well as the 6th and 10th October with zero reply.

I do have the ONT and my unit is wired up though

Well they haven't communicated ... so I have no idea.

But both my neighbours have asked me if I know ; so I assume everyone

By us fibrehoods installed before vumatel bought them.

Same here, even though we already have Openserve (no one wants to use them because, Telkom :crylaugh: )

They've presented to us already this week and they are true open access fibre, not an ISP.
