Concerning mobile data price changes in SA

Cell C has recently changed its 30-day data bundles, including price reductions and increased data allocations on smaller bundles.

Cell C’s chief commercial officer, Simo Mkhize, said the latest changes would help to bridge the digital divide by making digital access possible with the right offers.

Cell C’s data price cuts follow Vodacom’s announcement in April that it was reducing the price on selected 30-day data bundles.

I don't think they even read their own headlines tbh. The entire article is about a single company (cellc) charging what other companies are charging and from that they get 'concerning trend...'.

... to understand more (as explained just above).

Are they concerned because it's the same price? If it was really a matter of concern, the masses would stream to Telkom.

My only concern is that data expires. I paid for it, i want to use it when i need it.

Clearly the market has failed. Cell C matching the big players' pricing shouldn't be as much as a concern as the big 2 having the same price across the board. Toothless ICASA probably thinks this is "competition".

It is not clear why someone using 30-day data bundles would opt for Cell C instead of MTN, which has far superior network quality.

It isn't clear why someone would use their bundles before this reduction. What's the bigger concern here is how Vodacom and MTN have been copying each other for decades now but not a peep about that.

Honestly there are much better deals available. I don't know why anybody would use any of these bundles from the big 4 for their main connection.

Funny when there was a monopoly, we were much more bold and daring to expose practises that goes with said monopoly. To the consumer, not everyone prepaid person in Telkom coverage is dumping VC and MTN and Cell C and going with Telkom. You can get someone gnashing and wailing about their providers prices, not a damn will they leave their current provider.

There is a law to that effect. Has been used many times in other industries. Funny though the "inquiry" wrt this has been going on for over a decade but these mafia networks are immune.
