SA mobile data prices compared with African and overseas countries

South Africa's mobile data prices are relatively expensive compared to some other African countries. However, we compare fairly well to the UK, UK, Netherlands, and Germany.

We compared the price of 1GB, 5GB, and 10GB of prepaid mobile data — or the nearest data allocations to these — in South Africa to a range of other countries.

always thought we were not to badly priced for Data but we also have to take the Mcdonalds effect into place. If take what people earn in other countries compared to south africa

The joy of fibre and WFH - my mobile data requirements dropped through the floor and I would presume it is the same for a lot of people.

And the high mobile prices leaves lots of room for fibre operators to go after lower LSM areas.

Nothing more satisfying to tell those telehens after a long bla bla, "Nope got uncapped fiber at home which way cheaper"

How are you getting R525.53 (12GB) for Three UK for 12GB?

50GB - 15GBP
100GB - 20GBP (R480)

Even their standard 10GB package is 10GBP (R 240).

What a shitty article, as usual.

I'm in the UK and pay £10 (R240) for a 20GB package on Lebara. Out of bundle top-ups seem more expensive here than in SA though, from what I can tell.

Sorry... very badly researched and senstationalist. Three has unlimited for £20 a month on contract

The bit not counted is that the basic income is £21000 per year (about £1400 per month = R29000)

Wait for Vodacom to gobble up Maziv.

We pay outrageously prices for any of our services using mobile. Kenya is comparable to SA even to being a Vodaphone network, yet they pay substantially less than we do in SA. Our government built in high prices for the mobile networks and the Regulator is incapable of bringing these down. This has been true of companies like DSTV, Telkom, Eskom who have been given leeway by government 'licensing" to levy huge charges. Beware: high charges create massive profits, fatcat thinking and they become easy targets for someone to come and eat their lunch.
