I have two 8ta SIM cards. One is a 2+1gig promo, and the other is a 10gig per month SIM card. When using the 2+1gig SIM, I get excellent download speed (well according to me, who is technically not wiithin coverage). I can download anywhere between 600kB/Sec - 1.5m/Sec. When using the 10 gig promo SIM card, the connection is there, I can browse comfortably, but downloads hardly exceed 60kB/Sec. Anyone knows why this is happening?

Thanks for the heads-up, might not sign that 24month contract I was aiming to get.

Have you tried 8ta's website, technical help?

Look the problem is that I am technically not in their coverage area, so I won't bitch too much about the download speed. I can use the internet comfortably enough. I just found it strange that the prepaid SIM would give me better speeds than the contract one.

If speed really differs, maybe you should check if both SIM cards use 8ta network. I know, prepaid can only use 8ta network, but contract SIM might default roaming to MTN. To verify you need to do manual network search and register using Mobile Partner or in the ordinary phone.

I'm also getting something weird with the 8ta simcard on my iPad.
I got one simcard on 30 April and it worked perfectly. 3 bars 3G signal most of the time.

Got a new sim about a month ago and it's giving me so much crap.
It's almost always on EDGE and quite often, all the signal goes away and it just says "No Service".
I can take out the sim and put it back, restart the device, turn on airplane mode and turn it off so it searches for the carrier again, etc, etc. nothing works.
All i can do is wait. Sometimes it stays like that only for a couple of minutes but sometimes it stays like that for a long time.

Can't go get a new sim now cause i still have data left.

I know it's not my iPad cause I has the old sim for months and it never happened once.
I gave the old sim to a family member to use in an iPad and it still works perfectly, even when I insert it in my iPad...

The sim does use MTN's network.

So what's up with 8ta? Inconsistencies with the sims?

The contract SIMs can also only use the 8ta network. The carrier I pick up is 65520, where Cell C would say Cell C, and MTN would say MTN-SA, etc etc.

AS far as I know(I stand to correction) but the prepaid uses MTN network and the contract one uses 8ta's network. Can an 8ta person verify?

Yip, but it seems that GoBig contracts are also non-roaming (special promotion things). Cheaper than normal offer, but limited to 8ta.
