Acer travelmate 2310 connects to modem but when pinging i get REQUEST TIMED OUT. This laptap is a new windows installation with no antivirus. Same laptop connects perfectly when tested on 2 other modems . Please help I tried everything

are you using dhcp or user configured IP address
also which windows do you use on both of the laptops

Medem?
You are trying to connect to the medem?

sounds too me like a firewall issue
I know u are able to ping the router but do actually gain access the site if u punch it the address bar. secondly if u punch this ip 66.102.9.147 in the address bar does google come up
if google does come up then check DNS's your could use 209.068.222.222 / 209.068.220.220

if google does not come up try to ping it
if it pings then its def a firewall if not your connection to the router is not correct and may need to be redone possibly try a def security type usually wep works most of the time

hope this helps :)

MODEM! good 1 anyway
I am unable to ping the modem, it replies REQUEST TIMED OUT
I will try Mineer advice tonight.
Both laptops using xp home sp2.

which wireless encryption you using cause if its WPA some laptops wireless dont support it

so you have to change your wireless on router to wep encrypted
