Just a quick note about Cool Ideas attitude towards clients and good service...
PBCool

Please ask your guys who was at the Docker MeetUp last night, Thursday 7 June at BBD.

Friend and myself were chatting, he just got Fiber installed, and having problems, in walks a guy with a CI top, he over hears us, we just mentioned we love CI.. Friend continues to mention he's having some problems getting his line working and is in discussions with <insert support tech name here> :).
CI Staff member quietly opens lap top, and comes and stands next to friend, ask for a number and proceeds to see why/what is possible wrong with line, end, friend will continue to talk to <unnamed support tech> as it's a bit bigger than a quick fix with laptop, seems to be some miss configuration done by Network Providers.

No asking, nothing, just steps in and sees if he can help.

KUDUS bud, KUDUS CISP.

little things are noticed and appreciated.

PBCool, any issues with authentication your side? No service at all, West Beach, CT area. Router logs show the following, auth seems fine, but then drops not long after. The error just repeats every few minutes, rebooting router doesn’t help.

Please log it as a line fault, if your PPP is dropping its data loss not an auth issue.

Glad to hear it, did you get his name?

Ok I'm not with CISP but this thread is by far the most active and helpful when it comes to ISP feedback.

I just wanted to find out, in general, if a lot of users in a given area are on OpenServe and having terrible speeds, what's the best way to escalate it and have it sorted out? We're getting 5Mbps on a 100Mbps line.

Area went live 2 weeks ago and day 1 it was ok, but south ever since then.

Escalate via your service providers, is the only channel to get anything done with Openserve.

What do you get on a Speedtest?

Speedtest is 100% as the upload only fails every few minutes, and from what I can tell, usually at night time. I'm bias towards night time as that's when I'm home.

I've only once had the upload failure happen while running a speedtest, where the upload would literally stop, and then continue (back to full speed) 15 seconds later. So trying to test while it's happening is tedious.

Current speed test.

Yeah tough to say, it could be optic levels in the one direction. Can you PM me your object number?

Some more feedback on my issue:

My line is back to normal this morning, runs 20mbps down and 10 up as it should. There is definitely some form of congestion on the network at night, from 7pm to about 10pm it's very degraded :(

PBCool I know it's been a rough week, but has any progress been made on MTN's CPT routing since your last post?

Getting terrible speeds and high pings during peak times

1 * * * Request timed out.
2 180 ms 71 ms 88 ms 192.168.10.1
3 191 ms 138 ms 189 ms 192.168.11.2
4 17 ms 17 ms 17 ms 154.0.3.205
5 101 ms 358 ms * 154.0.4.82
6 20 ms 19 ms 19 ms google.ixp.joburg [196.60.8.166]
7 59 ms 59 ms 58 ms 72.14.237.239
8 25 ms 26 ms 25 ms jnb01s07-in-f3.1e100.net [216.58.223.3]

This test was done with a direct pppoee connection directly from my laptop (So no routers/switches from my side)

Can assume that 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.11.2 is somehow part of the openserve network?

Update: Cool ideas did respond to my ticket and this is an issue they aware of on the Openserve network

Wow, it seems like fibre is even less stable than adsl. I've been lurking in the fibre forums, as our street got fibre a couple of weeks ago, and I'm amazed at how many issues there are with fibre. But I will continue to use lte until next year. Hopefully fibre will be usable by then.

I'd still have fibre over adsl. I had been on MTN direct for a year before switching to CISP and never had an issue aside from their shoddy billing portal.

Seems there are some teething issues with the open access.

lol same. Even though i had a lot of issues (none related to CISP), i still find Vumatel a lot quicker to resolve issues than Telkom ever was. A working 100/100 line is unreal, love it. Can never see myself going back to my old 10mb ADSL line.

Depends on the provider and the region. Im on vumatel trenched in cpt and there have been very few issues over the 10 months iv had it.

Yeah it depends on a lot of factors, I think reading this forum can often spin negative on the service because it's basically a forum for feedback of issues. What people don't see are the thousands of users happily consuming the service daily. My house was one of the first Vumatel lines installed and I have had one fibre break in the near 3 years of service. It was repaired in 24hrs.

Agreed 100%, I don't have to wait 6 weeks for telkom to fix the adsl line anymore. The longest outage on fibre was 24 hours. There are some teething issues when a new area goes live but it settles down. People mostly post here when they have trouble, the more happy clients, the more chances of someone having an issue. If there was a thread where one could post adsl issues and get a response from telkom, then you would have seen how that nightmare compares to fibre :)
