Hi I have ADSL and use PPOE to connect to the internet at home. The thing is that one of my laptops started getting disconnected from the internet every few minutes(1-20). All my other computers were working fine though. I switched to use another laptop I had lying around and everything was peachy.

I recently had to copy something from the first laptop and immediately after that my second laptop came down with the same initial problem of disconnections.

Both laptops are actually spares (my desktop computer is in for repairs) and don't have antivirus :erm:

Could a virus be causing these problems and what should I do? I can't download any antivirus programs or use any online scanners because I get disconnected too soon.

I've fiddled with the connection options, made sure it wasn't the laptops powersaving measures and I've switched the routers I use, reset everything multiple times, tried different internet browsers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

If you have one around / can get it quick enough you can try a download manager to grab the antivirus software. Can't think of anything else short of re-installing OS.

Try safe mode with networking. If it works, there probably is a virus!

Yes do what kaufies said, i will upload a pack for you with 100% legal free anti spyware, malware ect. stuff in (i will do it at about 3 0clock today) there are about 5-6 programs100% working and il try to super compress it for you if you want... so its a smaller file :)

If that doesnt work il add a program that will scan your PC and give you a text document, just e-mail me everything in the document (or private message me) and il tell you whats wrong!

Thanks for the help guys.

I managed to get a antivirus program working and found quite a few trojans and viruses

I removed them and it seems like all is well again :)
