Ok. I've done everything I was told to do. Downloaded MDMA, Switch the modem to 3G only, then I get more disconnects.

"Receive diversity" should be next to "Equaliser" like in E1820 package. If it is missing, it means is not present. This is an option in this modem. More it should state in witch W-CDMA band is active. In E1820 it doesn't say.

Conclusion. It is not good modem for you. Nor for me. Thank you for this information, I was going to buy this package for R1499. Now I am looking for third party because I don't need 60Gig package, I need a good modem. Even Vodafone K3565 R369 @CNA or HifiCorp is better because will be more stable because it has this feature. So get better modem or look for external antenna I think.

Mine jumps from -87dBm to -91dBm.

Workable under most conditions - Levels of -85dBm to -95dBm. Probably worth considering an outdoor gain type antenna. Could suffer poor throughput and disconnects due to cell loading/breathing.

If your Cell ID changes when the signal strength jumps then I'd definitely advise an antenna.

Good - Levels between -75dBm and -85dBm - normally no problem holding a connection with this sort of level (even with cell breathing) without the use of an external antenna.

I live in Richwood, am often at my girlfriend on the weekends in sunningdale/parklands and work in Philippi industrial area. I am looking to get the R1499 modem deal but not sure how the coverage is in these areas. Does anybody know how I can find out if it is going to work well there? I'm currently using a vodacom PCI card on my laptop and get pretty good signal in all the areas.

Today I'm only getting EDGE. It is frustrating because the speed is terrible. If I knew the speed and reception was going to be this bad I never would've bought the CellC modem deal. And I don't see the point in spending a extra R1000+ to buy a extra antenna and stuff to get it to work properly.
