I previously downloaded MDMA but couldn't get it to work. I've downloaded the latest again, but get the "Cannot load dialog. Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection."

You say: "The down side of this is you must have a RAS entry named 'MDMA'. The easiest way to do this is to create a copy of the one created by your other dashboard." however since I don't have an existing entry (or cant find any files with RAS in their title) I'm not able to test it further.
Please try the latest non-beta version and ask any questions about MDMA in this thread.
Are you the MDMA developer?
Yes I am.

Finally received my call back from Cell C regarding coverage in Kommetjie. It appears there is none and they have subsequently updated their coverage map. So it would appear that they are at least updating the map as they find areas that are not sufficiently covered.

Thanks Ginngs. I changed to the latest non-beta and it seems to be working. Pity it can't be used with my Dovado router which will limit it to diagnostic use only for me.

The app is useful in identifying the Cell ID. Using this feature I learned that when forced to 3G only, I seem to connect to a cell which is not the closest and has a signal strength of circa 45-48% (Thought: an actual number would be more precise than the imprecise green signal bar).

If I force GPRS/EDGE, I connect to a different Cell with a much stronger signal. I was going to quote RSSI numbers, but my .txt file seems to now be blank :o

The '3G Only' setting is stored in the modem's NVRAM, so if you set it on a Windows box then plug it into your router it will stay like that until you change it back.

The RSSI in dBM is the actual number.

About NVRAM; I wondered if that might be the case. Good news that, thanks!

RSSI (dBM) expressed as a bar; since its a negative number, maybe expressing signal strength graphically was the only way to go.

Meantime, there have been developments on my reception issue. I don't want to say too much, as I don't want to cause issues for Cell C - suffice it to say that my site is experiencing reception issues.

My closest cell (+/- 300m) is somehow not operating optimally. The result is that I can often pick-up a more distant cell. Cell C's contractor has observed something is not right and this will be tweaked shortly.

I've got my fingers & legs crossed!

I'm not chasing speed here (that's would be a bonus) I just need a stable 1-1.5mb downlink which doesn't periodically drop down to EDGE, sometime for hours. I should hear something in the next few days!

Does anyone know when the coverage in Honeydew-Eagle Canyon will be restored? I only get EDGE now with the occasional HSPA+ flicker. whereas last week I could get HSPA+ (albeit buy standing on my head wearing tinfoil boots - but hey, at least it worked.

Coverage in PE has been sucking lately. I use my cell c data to listen to internet radio and when i bought it i could listen the whole way to work, lorrain -> summerstrand

Now i can barely get out my driveway and it switches to edge

Not sure if i can force 3g on the iphone 4?

At home and work i get hspa+ but the speeds are NOT great (sub 1mbit)

I am outside the CellC store in Eastgate JHB and can only pick up EDGE. I asked the store reps what's up with the network and they tell me they don't know zilch. WTF

Hi Guys,

I have been thinking about this Whoosh stick for a while now. Is there anyone who stays in Albertville (JHB) and if there is, how is the performance of the modem?

I'm migrating from Pretoria to Jhb, to a place in Oerder Park (border of Craighall/Roosevelt Park/Blairgowrie). I'm near the bottom of the dip in Jan Smuts over the river that runs through Delta Park - can't remember the name right now.

I have an older MTN modem and the MTN signal is fine there, while the Cell C modem won't even connect. Tested the Cell C modem in Centurion and it works fine, so it must be signal.

I have MDMA but can't see where to force the modem to 3G. My version is dated 2008 - is there an update?

Thanks, Brendon

Doh - found the Connection Type options.. Have also located the current download.

Would still like to hear from anyone nearby in Jhb how they experience Cell C 3G. I am moving again soon so ADSL is not an option, and the other providers are still pricey :(

Cell C Coverage

This map will tell you exactly where Cell C is covering their 3G network currently. If it's not red you will only receive EDGE!

I bought a 60G deal two days ago for R2999. The stupid guy at Cell C did not tell me that I will only get EDGE. He said it won't be as fast as it should be because I'm outside the coverage map!

I also have not been able to send emails so I went to another Cell C shop and they said that Cell C has had problems and that they are working on it.

I have 7 days in which I can get my money back and I will do that today. Apparently they will have 'national' coverage somewhere in March.

No ways they will have national coverage by March, they still have to build the network!!! Compare their coverage maps with other operators...Vodacom has the best coverage and cover towns and small towns already :)

No more Whoosh in Fourways?

I've just moved to Lonehill from Bryanston (all of 3kms down the road) and my fairly good HSPA+ signal has now dropped to barely usable speeds on EDGE. Also, if I set my connection to 'WCDMA only' it refuses to even find the Cell C network.

Is anyone else in the area experiencing these issues? Are they temporary, or does the signal round these parts just completely suck?

I really don't feel like the schlep of selling off my contract or fighting to have it cancelled :(

I was very patient. Even when I was not in a coverage area I was getting pretty good speeds when I did get some HSPA+ signal
Now that I'm in a coverage area I get only EDGE. I hope it doesn't stay that way. I've driven around all the suburbs surrounding Honeydew Ridge and there's HSPA+ all around me.
Rock Cottage, Weltevreden Park, Panorama, Radiokop and Strubens Valley all have HSPA+. Honeydew Ridge...ZIP. EDGE only.
And there's like a Gazillion townhouses where I am. They're losing out on a lot of customers.

Tower numbers :
21682 - EDGE Only (-71dBm) - I hope this tower gets upgraded sometime
10981 - HSPA+ (-65dBm!!!) - The tinfoil hat tower - only on "3G only" in MDMA
16351 - HSPA+ (-81dBm) - kicks me off as soon as I start browsing.

Mooikloof Ridge Coverage ?

Hi all

Anyone in Mooikloof Ridge with the new speedsticks? Coverage map shows the complex is on the "EDGE" but not sure about the accuracy....

Any feedback much appreciated.
