Cricket: International Discussion Thread

When I was in school, our team once got bowled out for 13

It happens more often than you think, usually when a non-sports focused school plays aganst one of the schools that is aiming to produce pro cricketing talent.

In schools cricket, one great player can also make or break the game unlike pro cricket. If one team has an up and coming Kagiso Rabada, something like that could also happen.

So it looks like the Aussies are looking to create a new standard of pitche in the game
It was used in the WC recently, now in tests and in their BBL
They have a new style of pitch, it showed when teams were unable to play the ball in the WC and most games ended up as low scoring games, then in BBL and even in the tests after WC
Low scoring games are the new standard for Aus cricket

That can also work the other way. I've recently been officiating at a national schools tournament, and noticed that if the up and coming player has an off day, the rest of the team tends to quickly collapse like a house of cards.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz to Kohli, out Caught by Mominul!! Excellent catch at short leg and this is HUGE! What a passage of play this is for Bangladesh! They had gotten some momentum with their lower order fightback in the batting and are now turning it on here in Mirpur. Kohli was lunging and defending at every spinning delivery, so this was actually on the cards. Mehidy got one to land on that good length spot, not full enough to be defending off the front foot and Kohli gets an inside edge on it. Sharp low take by Mominul at short leg. Excellent reflexes!! There is some spice in the action as Kohli isn't happy with the Bangladesh fielders celebrating in his face. Stands there and there is some momentary eye contact as well before he is forced to go away. Shakib immediately steps in to calm his boys and reminds them that the job is far from over.

Kohli c Mominul b Mehidy Hasan Miraz 1(22)

Haha, the irony...

Makes it interesting to be fair. Low scoring games, on pitches that are tricky..who can handle it better. All these easy to bat on pitches are just a pain in the arse imo.

Many many years ago, there wasnt these nice bare pitches. Hadlee, Ambrose, Lilee, Waqar, Marshall etc bowled on nice green tops, where batsmen were proper hard nosed cricket players. Now with the invent of T20, a batsman cant even last a few overs of test cricket.

Important knock for babar. His captaincy is under pressure after that white wash against England. Made NZ pay for dropping him.

The biggest surprise is NZ still having 2 reviews left with southe as captain.

New Zealand 165/0. Pakistan and the umpire gave conway a late Xmas gift.
Massive inside edge caught by the keeper. Not given and babar didn't review.
