I think the sentiment of contact and forgoing the IPL would probably apply to other similar tournaments. The thinking is to preserve players from injury and fatigue in anything not related to the domestic cricket and international commitments. The sweetner of longer contracts loses its appeal against the income they can earn in, say, the IPL and the English T20 tournaments. Also, I think it's possibly too late to try close off the revenue stream.

Adding in to the money made directly from playing is advertising \ sponsor revenue like AB's bat contract. The sponsors are not going to be happy paying a guy for taking a 2 month holiday and not showing off their product on the field.

All in, I doubt the players are likely to fold on this.

So Ireland and Afghanistan have been granted test status. Going to be a rocky road for them I think but hopefully they grow into forces in test cricket. Dont expect to buy any 5th day tickets though if either of them tour SA any time soon.

Way too soon. They should first play first class cricket before going on to tests.

Theyll get slaughtered.

Great news. Took Nz 26 years to win their first test. Reckon Afghanistan and Ireland will do better then that.

It is great news. Afghanistan will do it far sooner. They're learning and improving the game every time the play.

There is no point in hamstringing the teams who want to play test cricket. So they won't playing numerous matches against the top teams. It shouldn't stop them from playing against teams who are happy to play.

I like it.. Too few countries playing the game Imo. Needs to be expanded or the game will just become boring.

Not many countries are playing anything more then 3 test series these days.

Highest runs/wickets may never be broken as it stands now.

I miss the good old days. 5 tests, 7 ODIs. I must be, of the few that don't particular like T20 cricket. I just think it has killed the game of cricket, and will be the reason the kids will not care about technique, patience at the crease etc

Very reason why tests are going 3-4 days only - batsmen no longer have the patience and/or pick and choose which formats they want to play in.

Some rule changes to be implemented from October the 1st

From October 1, teams will not lose a review for "umpire's call" verdicts under the decision review system (DRS). The ICC chief executives' committee on Friday approved this and all other recommendations made by the ICC cricket committee in May.

A number of the approved recommendations were related to the DRS. Teams will no longer have their reviews topped up at the 80-over mark in Test matches. DRS, meanwhile, will now be used in the T20I format as well.

The committee also agreed on minimum standards for the use of DRS in international cricket, with mandatory use of ball-tracking and edge-detection technology.

Other changes approved by the committee include:

Bat size restrictions

In order to restore the balance between bat and ball, the ICC approved recommendations relating to bat sizes. The MCC's cricket committee, which met in Mumbai last December, had set the limits to 108mm in width, 67mm in depth and 40mm at the edge.

Punishments for on-field misconduct

As in football, umpires will now be vested with the power to send players off the field for serious incidents of misconduct. "All Members," the ICC said, "have agreed to implement this in full."

Run-out rule change

Batsmen will be ruled to have made their ground if their bat bounces after being grounded behind the crease.

4cm is still a heck of a chunk of wood...what was the limit before? Or am I reading that wrong?

Being ever so nervous of jinxing things, I have left this till the end of game.

Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka, 1st ODI: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe at Galle, Jun 30, 2017

Sri Lanka 316/5 (50.0 ov)
Zimbabwe 322/4 (47.4 ov)
Zimbabwe won by 6 wickets (with 14 balls remaining)

Just wow for Zim! In Galle nogal. Well done, lads! :)

This is the highest successful chase ever in Sri Lanka, in 296 ODIs. How's that for a record? The heroes? Solomon Mire, who set the pace. Sean Williams who batted through and held the innings together. Sikandar Raza for ensuring the good work done by those two didn't go to waste.

If bowing out early, in heartbreaking fashion, from the Champions Trophy wasn't enough, Sri Lanka have endured another crushing blow. This is the highest successful chase ever in Sri Lanka, in 296 ODIs. How's that for a record? The heroes? Solomon Mire, who set the pace. Sean Williams who carried on to bring the chase within a 100 runs, and Sikandar Raza for ensuring the good work done by those two didn't go to waste. How easy have they made it look? Worrying signs for Sri Lanka. The bowling was toothless. The fielding? Well, it wasn't any better. This is also the first time Zimbabwe have beaten Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Surely it merits a big party tonight!

Dinesh: "Zimbabwe had that reputation of being the giant killers in the early 2000s and now, well and truly, they are back on big stage. Chasing 300 in Sri Lanka against Sri Lanka is incredible effort. Take a bow" Can't let one big effort mask all that's happened in between. As Cremer said, one step at a time.

Solomon Mire is the Player of the match.

Graeme Cremer: Very special! To chase down a score like that to post our first win here was amazing. For our batting to chase the total down, special. Mire is a real asset to the team, not just with the bat but also with the ball. He's lovely to watch. We just want to take it one game at a time. We can hopefully carry this confidence forward.

Angelo Mathews: Having 315 on the board, I thought it was enough. Our bowling was poor and our fielding was pathetic. It was a good batting effort by them. The wicket was playing a little slower. I thought we had the bowling to defend this.

Sikandar Raza: The selectors and coaches have shown consistency. A lot of cricket behind us has helped us pull off this fantastic win. I kept saying myself that this had to be for Solomon. For someone to play in this kind of heat after bowling his heart out, that was sensational. I wanted to do it for him.

Sean Williams: Solomon and I spoke about taking ones and twos, and batting till the 40th over. We wanted to play the sweeps and reverse-sweeps to keep the runs ticking.

Scotland beat Zimbabwe to claim first ODI win over a Test nation
http://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/40296048

One-day international, Edinburgh:
Scotland 317-6: Coetzer 109, Leask 59, Wallace 58
Zimbabwe 272 all out: Waller 92, Williams 70, Mire 40
Scotland won by 26 runs (DLS method)
Scorecard
Scotland recorded their first official one-day international win over a Test nation as they beat Zimbabwe on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

The Scots won the toss and elected to bat. Captain Kyle Coetzer top-scored with 109 and Craig Wallace and Michael Leask both contributed half centuries.

Scotland totalled 317, while in reply Zimbabwe amassed 107-4 before rain.

When play resumed, Zimbabwe were set an adjusted total of 299 to win but finished on 272 all out.

The Scots' May win over Sri Lanka was not classed as a first win over full member opposition as the two-game series was not given full ODI status.

Kyle Coetzer
Scotland, with Coetzer's century, put themselves on course for victory
Opener Matt Cross contributed 33 in Scotland's innings but it was Coetzer's century that led the way for the hosts in Edinburgh.

He received good support from Wallace (58 off 54 balls) and Leask, who cracked 59 not out off 38 balls.

Sean Williams took two of the Scottish wickets and then scored 70 at comfortably better than a run a ball in Zimbabwe's innings, bettered only by Malcolm Waller's brutal 92 off 62 balls.

Solomon Mire (40) and Hamilton Masakadza (38) had earlier given the tourists a positive start with the bat.

Con de Lange excelled for Scotland, taking five wickets, including those of Mire and Waller.
