the thing with records is that they don't keep track of conditions. this 4th day wicket was as good as a 2nd day wicket.

on arthur - i think we need to start viewing him diffrently in that he has without doubt put us as the 2nd team in the world. come end of this year we can lay claim to being first.

Well my exact point was that all the stats quoted showed the team winning reaching the target required with less than three wickets down... and here again we achieved a greater target with only five down...

With that 154 not out Smith has taken his First Class average past 50, making one of three current players (Kallis and Duminy the other) with a First Class class average of 50+.

Smith played well and lead from the front as a skipper should, but I have to say ABdV and Boucher played their part. Well done boys.

Best part is that we did not *CHOKE*:)

India 329 & 269
Sri Lanka 292 & 20/3 (5.5 ov)

Looks like India will level the series.
That Mendis dude got 10 wickets in the match.:eek:

Yeah, that Mendis guy is insane. At 23 years old, if he stays injury free... Murali's record will be challenged.

First-class 20 37 3929 1747 119

20 matches, 119 wickets. Excluding the current match.

Cricinfo: Ajantha Mendis

i'm not so sure why beating this poor england team is such a big thing? Lets wait till we play a team with more than 3 good batsmen.

so we should only be happy with a victory if it is over australia? we can't be happy with our team having put in a good performance?

I will quote Allan Donald for you:

"Donald: Winning here in this country is massive. I don't think English people realise how big it is for touring sides. It's the accolade. It's absolutely humungous, priority number one."

Ok you said it... but I still think killa is trying to stir a bit... because no one who has any idea of the game of cricket will make such a statement and actually mean it LOL! Killa, cheer up boet, we'll get the Aussies later, for now lets just savor this series victory :D

i'm not saying that, i am just saying lets not go crazy and start thinking we are that good.

Good win no doubt but like i said lets not get to hot and heavy about it. We beat a very weak team, not exactly something that should make us start thinking we are the best.

Yea i'm a pro 20 man but for me a beating a very poor team in a test series is not something i would crazy over and start saying stuff about getting the no1 spot.

I won't comment again on this as obviously you guys think that beating England is a really amazing, maybe its amazing because of the history but in terms of teams it should be expected.

Very interesting. Seems like Vaughan might step down as captain.

The ECB have called for a press conference at 1pm (BST) and have delayed the announcement of the squad for the 4th test till afterwards.

That will mean Smith have knocked off 2 English captains :D Nasser Hussein stepped down as captain after the 1st test at Edgbaston in 2003 where Smith scored 277 and 85.
