Cricket: Test Cricket

I know we won but i don't think the aussies should think they lost because of ponting, they lost because we managed to somehow win those 2 games, not because of his poor captaincy but because we have players who can do that now and they don't. they they came here and beat us 2-1 so in all the test series finished 3-3 which is not bad i think from their perspective. The one dayers well that was a whole different story and you could see the lack of talent in a much bigger way.

Look at the pro world cup again, lack of talent very obvious.

I am not saying the aussies have become bangledesh, i am just saying ponting does not has much talent at his disposal as he has had.

Ponting* 149, Clarke 1

Looks like England are clawing back.
Hussey gone in double quick time!

He was pretty impressive here with a 2nd rate Aussie team.
I'm not a fan, and he's no Mike Brearley, but he's really not bad at all.

He's got another 100 today, so in form with the bat again.

He is good when he is on the front foot. Once he gets on the back foot the issues start coming up. That's whey he lost the series vs england in 2005,india in 2008 and SA 2008.

The way a match and series start is vital when playing against pontinig. He is one of those players who is impossible to beat once he is on the front foot but doesn't know how to get back on the front foot as for as captaincy goes.

To point out how great a captain ponting is just go back to 2005 ashes and edgbaston. McGrath hurts his ankle in the warmup, he has the greatest spinner bowler of all time in his side, his other seamers has struggled throughout the tour and its a perfect batting day. Guess what ponting decides to do.;)

If england can manage to get a draw in this current match the series can turn very fast.

Yup what a save as well, those last 2 okes frustrated poor ricky.

Collingwood omg that oke has some staying power :D. This i would imagine feels like a victory for england.

Just have a look at captain grumpy
...

He really intimidated the English by bowling is inoccuous spinners at the end

And this is why I have lost a lot of respectfor ponting....

The umpires chased them off as soon as they used up more than the allowed time.

Ricky Ponting suggested England contravened the spirit of the game by sending out the 12th man with a fresh pair of gloves as Australia ran out of time to win the first Ashes Test.

Ponting queried England's tactics during the tense final overs as tailenders Jimmy Anderson and Monty Panesar held on for a thrilling draw on a controversial fifth day in Cardiff.

England stalled for time by sending 12th man Bilal Shafayat to the middle with a message, and he reappeared one over later with the physiotherapist Steve McCaig before both men were ordered from the field by the umpires.

The unimpressed Australian captain said the delay was not the reason Australia was unable to take the final wicket but said the matter should be taken up by the match referee.

"I don't think it was required, he changed (the gloves) the over before, I don't think they'd be too sweaty in one over," Ponting said.

Sad to see a captian blame this for his loss. He should have declared about 10 overs earlier.

The Aussies are the last team who should comment on ' the spirit of the game '.

As if they wouldn't have done exactly the same thing if the situation was reversed. They weren't good enough to finish off the tail-enders - game drawn so move on Ponting.

If we are honest, we'd have to realise that england did quite a bit of stalling themselves when they were in the field during the aussies innings.

Part of the game. The Aussies bullied the umpires into letting them bowl after the game should have been stopped, against us in a test. So they can hardly complain about pushing the rules a bit.
