Yup damn ponting it is all his fault his top order cannot bat :D

Shame for the first time i feel sorry for him taking stick. He just does not have the team to dominate cricket and as usual he will take the flak.

I have a soft spot for captains because when a team does not perform regardless of the talent they get blamed. Does not matter if johnson goes for 6 runs an over and the top order fails it is all the captains fault hehe :D

Although if i am not mistaken if they lose/draw the ashes we go number 1?

Not sure about the rankings, but saw some highlights on CSN and Ponting looked like he was gonna cry any second.

Yea because he knows he does not have the team anymore. I said before the ashes the aussies are on a major decline.

They have no spin bowler of note, they have very little batting talent, their pace attack has no sting. Johnson is good but other than him they have no one, maybe when lee is fit but these days he seems injured more than he plays.

I wonder though if the aussies could turn into the west indies in the next 5 years?

Now they are saying his dismissal was controversial. Rudi gave him out caught i.s.o. LBW.

Either way he was out!!

The way he was given out is wrong but he was definitely out. Rudi just got the method of out wrong.

Anyone else think england not enforcing the follow on was stupid?

No it was the right decision. The sun was shining which means its a batting day at lords. Had it been cloudy straus would have enforced the follow on.

England will get 550 ahead and ask aus to either chase it or bat out 4 sessions.

England 425 & 281/5 (66.4 ov)

Australia 215

England lead by 491 runs with 5 wickets remaining

15 overs to go today.
They should declare right now.

Probably wants the 500 lead.

Maybe 5-6 overs with the new ball.

Problem is that it is getting dark and Aus will be offered the light after 1 ball !!

Eng will declare overnight.

Yeah, probably why they don't declare.
Light is getting bad.

Is it just me who thinks giving the aussies 2 days to chase 500 odd runs could end badly?

Declaring now could end far worse than getting 600-650 run lead.

Records are there to be broken, the aussies thought the same when we won a test over there, it is not impossible that in 2 days they could easily chase 500.

My point is england are not as cocky as aus where against us and know 500 is a score that is very possible in 2 days of test cricket. Remember the aussies hit them for 600 odd in the first test with many centuries, you cannot give aus a sniff at victory because they will go for it, they won't try and bat out 2 days, they will go for an achievable total and while they may fail there is the possibility of them succeeding and i am sure england won't declare with less than a 600 run lead.

Scoring 500 in a 1st innings and scoring 500 in the 4th innings are 2 very different things.
Pretty much zero chance of getting it.

418/7 is the record for a win.

Listening to michael clarke now, he reckons the pitch is actually getting better and it's a batting pitch, he also backed up what i said by saying that the aussies will go for a total regardless of what it is. He said records are there to be broken.

Interesting though that he reckons the pitch is getting better from a batting perspective, so expect england to bat for a bit today and get a rather massive lead, i really hope the aussies have to chase to 600, going to be awesome watching them go for it. They won't sit back and try bat out, they will go for it.

OMG yes england declared, wow going to be a great day of cricket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go you aussie bastids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's saying that because he wants England to bat longer, giving the Aussies less overs to face.

EDIT: I c England declared
England 425 & 311/6d

Australia 215 & 12/0 (2.1 ov)

No he never wanted them to bat longer. He has hoping they would declare over-night, 520 on a good batting pitch with 2 days to get it.

I think england may have made a huge mistake, they have given the aussies a sniff, the last thing you do is give aus a sniff at victory. Alf do you think the Aussies are going to try and bat for 2 days? I think they are going to go after this total, they will either lose or win by doing so but the aussies do not understand bat out 2 days for a draw, they understand go for the total and win or lose.

I'm going to back aus to break the world record and win this game :D. This is what ricky is all about, big pressure big innings. Let's see if ricky can take this match away from england, i also have a feeling hughes is in for a big total today.
