Ashes 2009: South Africa vs Australia :D

Trott, who like Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen was born in South Africa, became the 18th "Englishman'' to make a hundred on Test debut and the first since Graham Thorpe in 1993 to do so against Australia.

Tailender Graeme Swann swung hard to make 63, helping South Africa to declare at 9-373 and set Australia a mammoth 546-run victory target with two days still remaining on a crumbling pitch.

LOL! http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25966224-11088,00.html

Ahhh, gotta love that Aussie media

Whats even funnier is Trott's interviews and how different he is from Pietersen. Never mind his refusal to change his accent like KP I think he read the script and realised the best way to be loved in England and in SA is to be diplomatic and just tell the truth.

When it was mentioned that he kissed the England emblem when he reached his 100 instead of doing a KP and saying something syrupy like he had always wished to to play for England and that it was a dream come true he replied that "I always kiss the emblem...even when I play for Warwickshire". :D Priceless.

Apparently Mickey Arthur said in some media reports that he feels it was a good move for Trott to go to England because he would never had made it into the current Proteas squad. Trott's response? "Yes, it was a good move" :)

Reckon he'll get a cheer rather the the usual boos reserved for that idiot KP.

Damnit. I missed those two wickets. I quickly had to drive to PnP to buy some lunch.

Have not been able to watch yet. How's the pitch?

Very dry, brittle and dusty. If you step on it with spikes, it leaves more than just a small hole. It causes chip marks. That's what the pitch-cam shows.

I dislike both teams equally. If the Aussies win I'll be happy coz it will mean a longer respite from the usual Pom gloating...but if the English win it will mean all we'll ever hear from the Aussie commentators is how "they're building towards reclaiming the Ashes".

Hope it rains tomorrow and it ends in a draw! :p

Oh well, that's it. Roll out the MBE's and knighthoods and gloating articles and prepare to hear the words "Ashes winners" whenever the English team is spoken of by the commentators for the next few years. *sigh*

Hope we whip their behinds when they come over later.

On the positive side it cements us in the Number 1 spot in both Tests and ODI's :D

Watch, I'd be willing to place money on sour grapes media reports starting tomorrow from Australia. If it was rugby they'd try to change the rules of the game again! :p

This made me beam and giggle like a little girl. From the Sydney Morning Herald (www.smh.com.au)
Relegated to third, Australia will fall further to fourth if, as expected, Sri Lanka defeat New Zealand again this week. Australia had never been lower than second since the inception of the ICC ranking system in May 2003.

Another record to add to the master tactician pontings mantle piece to go with first captain lose at lords for 70+ years, first captain to lose two series in england and first captain to lose a test series in aus to SA. Wonder whether they will make the right decision and axe him as captain.

Hopefully for us not. Its funny to watch them suffer.:D

Captain grumpy won't be axed. That is not the Aussie way. The cricket captaincy is highly regarded, second only in office behind the PM (although John Howard said he had bigger ambitions to be cricket captain rather than PM).
They always make a permanent decision and I can't think of where they have played with former captains in team (unless you count stand ins such as Gilly).
So with Ponting under no pressure to retire due to form (unlike Waugh, Taylor et al) , expect him to continue as Captain.
The baton will be passed when he retires.

In defence of Ponting, his team and the selectors let him down, although he had a hand in selection too.
