Did you ever figure out what the root cause of your disappearing data issue was?

Nope. I did the hours long test yesterday that CW wanted, where you start with one device on the network and add one more each hour. They didn't give any feedback afterwards, other than that they're still monitoring.

All I know is that it wasn't a PC on my network (directly downloading data - can't comment on the malware phoning in a DDOS attack possibility, although scans on every PC found nothing dodgy) and that wifi theft is highly unlikely. Nothing suspicious appears in the IS usage stats, and the data loss hasn't appeared again since the 3rd.

Information will be released soon, but in terms of current deployments you need hundreds, if not thousands to opt-in, and it goes via complicated HOA approvals and build approvals. We don't need an HOA and we can deploy to free-standing houses as a result, with very minimal commitment from people in the area. So we don't see it as onerous but in fact quite the opposite.

How would this process work within estates?

Hmm

"We are tired of the onerous sign-up numbers required to deploy."

"Oh, and if you want to expedite getting your area lit up on our new XtremeTTH service, start getting people in your area to sign up with us now! It's a first come first served product and requires 50 people in your area to sign up"

Contradiction?

And what is meant by 50 people in my area? Close vicinity as in same street/block or what?

Dammit. Didn't read that far. That's disappointing then. I don't want to do client recruiting for the ISP - that's their jobs, and once the system is in an area, it will spread like wildfire, even if it starts with only 2 or 3.

I see. Thanks for clarifying. So are we talking suburb here?

See above :). Great news nonetheless

Awesome communique here

Where are you able to do this fibre stuff? Is it just Gauteng and perhaps Cape Town, or is PE possible too?

Depends on the terms. I'd never get 50 people together in my close vicinity. But if we're talking suburb here, I'll get it done in a week

Extend that out and you see not every area will have the requisite uptake. If you just willy-nilly do this everywhere your costs are unrecoverable.

Well where I live, the total uptake will definitely outreach that by a huge margin - but seems nobody knows much about fibre yet, and don't care coz all they hear is that it's expensive and lose interest.

Surely better marketing should achieve this - why should it be up to someone like me, a user, to convince 50 people?

If you do it, you will most probably be "incentivised"...

It won't be only up to you. We have plans in place for this. But successful customer champions get free XtremeTTH for life. So....there's that. :)

I'd assume it's not as easy. How would an isp reach these people? Only means would be with paper flyers. We all know they don't work and get used as blitz ;)

I think from a users perspective it's easy to spark some interest. My suburb has a facebook group. That could be the first step to get interested parties on board and will literally take me 2 min to do so. Also, people on that group use some sort of internet and might be a bit more tech savvy :)

First I've heard of this. Will see where they go with it.

Had extensive PMs with DJ before he got... you know... and they know I have interest. I was still waiting for his replies before he got banned, as to what is supposed to happen next.

I am all ears, but I'm certainly not gonna disrupt my personal life just to get this going. If the 10Mb/s ADSL prices come down substantially, I'd rather take that option in the meanwhile.

Yea we find a lot of areas that have 10Mb people not very keen to upgrade/keep/lower price

I can't agree with your first statement, unfortunately. Flyers are huge here, and people do take notice of them in the papers. The Centurion Rekord, for example, often has flyers which people look at.

Simple example.

My problem is that my complex is 18 houses only - 80% owned by either people who rent out, or are geriatric so don't know what I am saying when I discuss it with them - which I already did a year ago at the AGM. It's only me and my direct neighbor who have interest.

But there are many complexes around where surely people will have interest - but again, I'm not a salesman who's gonna walk from door to door. People should get more informed about it by the companies themselves.

Obviously the above is not aimed at CW - it's a general statement - ISP's seem to want us to do their dirty work in general.

My TapaT going crazy with thread updates. Most life I've seen here in a good while. And it is all positive!

Booya chakka!
