I'm having big performance issues at the moment as well. Live chat not working.

Can't google for winmtr.

There's network notices our for Gauteng, and a load-shedding power alert on Telkom's systems for reduced throughput at exchanges as well.

We run the same routing on my side and no hassles and no reports of faults on our network monitors nor manual checks, so this is almost certainly a Telkom anomaly. Checking yours now...

For some reason, MyBB is lightning quick.

winmtr is taking 15 minutes estimated to download 1868kb.

Default DNS? If not, can you switch to it? Want to isolate this.

Busy investigating Telkom side and have also recreated your port. Can you reboot after switching DNS (if applicable)?

Can't possible be capped, this mornings usage stats: 52443/153600MB Late: 30045/460800MB. I am in Orkney, North West.

Port reset seems to have sorted it...

Good stuff. There's a network notice for an area right next door to you - Transmission failure. Possible this is causing a hassle for you guys too there. let me know if it creeps up again and I can check it out...

Just queried the line and it failed the tests. Seems there is an actual fault there, but there's no network notice out for your area, so this looks like one that needs to be reported to Telkom. I'm not finding your line in our migrations list or I'd reported the fault for you already, so unless I'm looking at this oddly you're going to unfortunately have to deal with 10210 on this one...:(

Seems everything is OK again now. That was really weird.

Line test still failing here on our side for your connection, so monitor it for a bit and let me know if anything crops up on your end again...

can you get Steph to look into my issue again, I'm running around quite a bit so can't sit online with support but I've started getting random short disconnects again, I don't think Telkom have ever actually gone down to the exchange to sort this issue out

Dear ,

Please take note that Standard Bank recently made changes to their business banking system that has broken the ability for business customers to auto-reconcile customer payments. This means that for weeks on end we have done nothing but try to manually reconcile thousands of payments. Because Standard Bank are unable to provide us with a time-frame for rectification of this matter, we will be suspending the acceptance of payments to our Standard Bank account effective immediately, and will require to you make payment to our FNB bank account, or to setup a credit card payment, or debit order using the following link - http://crystalweb.co.za/existingpayments.php - note that our FNB details can be found using this link too, and we ask that you update us with the reference you will use moving forward for FNB payments. Please ensure that your reference you generate is unique, and not generic like "Crystal Web Payment" or similar.

We apologise about this inconvenience, and know that this serves as a last resort option by us. We will inform all customers once we are able to confirm that Standard Bank have resolved their technical issues, so that you can revert (should you choose) to making payment to our Standard Bank account.

Note that it can take up to 48 hours for funds to clear as an inter-bank transfer, and we will therefore be amending our auto-reminder system to only generate reminders effective 5 days after payment due date. Please note that payments should all be made by the 1st of the month, but we allow payments to be made by the 3rd to account for any weekend clearance delays, before our systems suspend accounts.

Sincerely,

Shaun Kaplan

It is legit, and we directed you to our website for updated bank details rather than add them into the email itself, that way ensuring that there was no possibility of suspicion of account hijacking, however if your business requires a letter issued from our bank, we will be more than happy to accommodate this via our billing channel as well...

Thanks one can't be too careful these days

The payment wizard needs to be updated to reflect that only EFTs to FNB are possible. Standard Bank is still an option at http://crystalweb.co.za/existingpayments.php.

RE: 123Net, Greencom, CW Fibre, etc

Cool, always good to learn more about how things work behind the scenes. It seems most of us are in for a long wait.

I really hope 123Net works out, I've been following their threads and they seem to be making some headway. Seen them install actual fibre in people's homes, etc.

Greencom also looks good, but they're limited to Sunninghill at the moment. Hopefully PwC will get some of that glorious fibre, if they don't have it already.

I'm assuming that if we're close (as in a few meters) to DFA's fibre network then we stand a pretty decent shot of getting actual FTTH, provided we have enough sign ups.

I'll be trying full force to get fibre into Midrand once I'm up there next year and I see that the gated community I'll be in is on DFA's network. Getting the rest of the complex to join may be a bit of a pain, as it seems most of them are content with 5GB of Vodacom data a month.

DFA don't deal with the general public so what you're looking for is an ISP whose own network happens to use DFA fibre rings, that allow for last mile connections into certain areas, or who own or have access to DFA precincts. In terms of getting fibre into a complex, having a couple people interested is of zero value to any ISP. You have to have the HOA / body corporate on board, and you need commitment from at least 60% of the homeowners before any ISP is going to take the massive financial risk...

Yeah, I get the first part. I assumed you guys at CW are using DFA.

Thanks for the info on getting fibre into a complex. Will start trying as soon as exams are done, so hopefully in like a month or so. 60% sounds quite high, hopefully people are interested. A few of the residents have ADSL so maybe they will be eager to try out fibre.
