Crystal Web DSL performance feedback thread Part 4...

Last week I interacted with someone for ages, we had a really good chat in between finding out what was at fault (the East capacity thing), I enjoyed it ..... today: oh its your exchange, kthxbai

My connection seems fine. Worst case I'm missing a few MB/s but otherwise things are smooth. Can't believe Crystal Web has become like this though. Abysmal communication is worse than abysmal performance in my opinion.

at least the Afrihost reps communicate :D But on a serious note, cmon, by now the usage emails should have been resolved, or at least the portal. All i care about is to see my data usage

Sounds like the same guy who told me I had to switch off my router every night in order to solve my disconnections.

Anyone else in KZN having the same issues as last week all of a sudden? Whole day was fine until 30mins odd ago. Now it's all IS and AH in the bin all over again

cable fault in KZN; road construction damaged a cable 12.36km from new germany. openserve managed to identify the cable and contractors are onsite assisting with hauling in 220m of cable to start repairs..

What kind of cable fault was it, an IS one? A cable in NG affecting massive parts of KZN? A fault that lets Mweb off the hook? Not being funny, I'm genuinely curious because to me it seems like it was what AH said in their thread - capacity issues affecting the East again.

a telkom one feeding the region, in particular one of IS' IPCs at teraco is affected.

Support General?

Haha. Yup.

(05:38:49 PM) Support General: ok so you need to do now
(05:39:02 PM) Support General: is to factory reset the router
(05:39:16 PM) Support General: then reconfigure it again after 10min
(05:39:47 PM) Support General: please also make sure you disconect the router when you are not using it, e,g when go to sleep at night
(05:40:15 PM) Dewald Nel: There were 4 disconnects which weren't related to me restarting it, on the evening of the 17th after 10PM, and then in the early morning of the 18th.
(05:40:29 PM) Dewald Nel: Disconnect my router when I go to sleep? Are you for real?
(05:40:35 PM) Support General: let me confirm that
(05:40:41 PM) Support General: yes, i am
(05:40:56 PM) Dewald Nel: I've had ADSL since 2012 and I've never been requested to not run my internet at night.

The first part was after I told him I already did a factory reset as well.

Crystalweb was bearable for me at night. I wasn't to fussed about half the download speed and all but tonight only get 70KB's on downloads and 2000ms in games. Switched over to Axxess and downloads maxed out and ping is 190ms

When is the upgrades going to finish, because before the upgrades Crystalweb was perfect and i had no issues at all.

I contacted support this morning about slow speeds. With the maintenance that's been going on it's difficult to know if there is anything network related or storm related. Was told my account was de-prioritized due to wholesale amounts of data being used. So it basically means the 18 hours of free data on my account is not supposed to be used. Whey offer it then?

Yeah, he seems a bit... doff.

Same chap who insisted my router was to blame for the issues they are now addressing on the network.

I see the Vox thread looks similar to the CW in terms of recent evening experience. Vox uses IS too, not so?

I know it's windy and raining in Cape Town, but anybody else continuously losing connection, then a reboot brings it back up again?

No longer on the red connection, ey? ;)

Internet's been crap for a lot of people in CT today. We couldn't do stand-up this morning because none of us had a stable connection. Local seems fine so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a couple of faults impacting international again.

I'm still with the red connection as well, but dropped my Telkom data as I can't be sitting with 3 different ISP's. No chance I'm paying R265 for a 100 gigs of data with Telkom, madness

Going to ride this out for this rainy period, and then see how the connection is once this has cleared up.

Are you being throttled? I haven't seen any issues with throttling during the day, but then I'm only really streaming, and we are 4 people who stream most of the day.
