Im on a capped 250g account, During business hours my download speeds are pathetic. NZB wont break 300KB/s on a 20mb line and other downloads struggle to break the 1000KB/s. Every day around 4-5pm everything shoots back to fulll line speed.

I have contacted support numerous times about this and they 1. deny that shaping/throttling is occurring and 2. Always promise to look into it and get back to me and they never do

Is it time to move? is the free time during business hours a farce?

id like to hear your experiences

edit:tested on another account(Afrihost), all downloads at full line speed

Ex-CW subscriber here. Although a number of factors could affect your performance with an ISP at any given exchange, including routing issues, if another ISP serves you better there's really no point in staying.

I moved from CW to Telkom only because of price differences. Service has been pretty similar between them.

Crystal web is dead. Either that, or they are throttling me heavy, despite not being a heavy user. It took me nearly 2 hours to download a 180mb file. Switched to Afrihost and 20 mins.

By the way, I'm on a 20meg line. My download speeds were at around 20kbps

I've given up on this ISP. Very quickly becoming the new Openweb.

I hopped on live chat to ask about the premium news server and their response was " Its been discontinued but you can still use our free one"

You mean the IS one lol

Not even a notice or communication about it despite it being a big selling point of theirs when I took up the package.

Absolutely pathetic communication from CW

As soon as fibre is live in 4 weeks I'll be ditching these guys.

Yet another ISP that started great and went to the dogs where communication is concerned.

must say I am extremely disappointed, using these guys as my fibre provider, have not been able to resolve websites since last week Wednesday. I have contacted to speak to the manager maybe 4 times now but he is "in meetings" it seems 24/7 and never calls me back. The seem to be putting the blame on the Fibre provider which is 100% not the case. Moving away as soon as possible I just want my refund for this month.

I have done that and it does not help, literally done everything even got a new router to test with. No matter what DNS server I use i get "resolving host" for ages. sometimes the website will load but most of the time not. However when I connect my router to a VPN service I can magically browse a lot of the websites I could not browse. Seems like a firewall issue on their side but their senior engineer is convinced everything is 100% normal on the connection

and for some reason I can do google searches with no problem, just cant click any search results.

The premium news server was pretty much the only reason I was paying premium prices for Crystal Web. Now that it no longer exists, I have no reason to pay them R200 more than I would another ISP. I actually managed to get a 12 month subscription to another news server for R400 once off, and so far it actually seems better than what the old Crystal Web one was.

I see on their website they still list the Premium News Server as a perk of some packages. You would think that by now they would have removed that, so I guess that kind of sloppiness along with the other problems they have had recently shows the direction they are headed. Sad really, they used to be really good.

Me as well. They actually have the same package I am currently on, without the premium news server for cheaper. But do you think they will charge me the lower price? No way!

The main reason I'm willing to pay more, is because you almost never get throttled. I can remember being throttled slightly once in the last 3 years, and it was literally a few hours. Other than that, it's been near-flawless. And it really is worth paying that little bit more.

So, around 8am-5pm everyday. My line drops from full 20mb to as low as a few 100KB/s
I guess they are picking on me then?

Not even on uncapped. Im on a so called capped xTREME(ly throttled) package

Wont even get into the fact that ive contacted support at least 3 times to sort out my portal access and get the "we will get back to you shortly" response every time. Still cant log into the portal, no idea how it even looks in there :\

Used to really like CW. Looking around for a new ISP for the first time in a long time

Did they fix the problem? Was it the fibre?

Got to the bottom of my issue. Spoke to a pretty rude agent(i say that because he left the chat with a question still needing to be answered) on the webchat just now and he stated this

Wait
I see the issue
Your account was deprioritised because of the usage on it
Youhave used 977GB so far this month

So the free time is only free time if you use it a little bit
Done with these fools
