Crystal Web DSL performance feedback thread Part 4...

For those of you still dealing with issues that prevent your line from being taken out of the holding pool at Openserve and moving it to another ISP, please DM me your email addresses.

@CataclysmZA You mentioned in your article that OpenServe tried to contact the people who's lines were affected but due to an out of date system this did not work. I can attest to that, when I contacted OpenServe directly regarding my line they still had my old mobile number on record despite Telkom themselves having the updated number. How I am meant to get that changed is beyond me...

Indeed, that was part of the problem. They couldn't contact everyone to get them ported over. Openserve fibre has none of these issues, it's the DSL portion, mixing in with the information Telkom used to hold on their own, that makes it much more difficult.

So I placed order with Afrihost but got message that other adsl operator is still active.. And at telkom they cannot do anything. If anyone else has any other ideas that I can try please let me know.

Have explained the holding pool story to telkom but noone can assist. Cannot order new line because there is still active adsl portion but there isn't.

Please drop me a PM - we can definitely help.

We've been in direct discussions with Openserve to address Crystal Web clients specifically and we have a special channel set up for this.

Send me all your details and we'll get this sorted for you.

Excellent move AH!
You definitely get my vote for the best ISP.

Let us hope that OS now take this seriously and set up a process for handling ASP, with a component for both wholesale and Retail clients.
They should never have given the Retail task to Telkom Retail.

Companies like EvoNet can resell the services of other ISPs who have IECS/IECNS licences because their upstream provider has the correct licences. They just act as a reseller. I suspect that's how they're keeping other fibre users online by converting those accounts into accounts that have access services resold by them, and internet connectivity for DSL customers is done through a provider like Internet Solutions, also by reselling accounts.

So I wouldn't expect you to lose connectivity, but I do expect Evonet to start addressing their financial situation in 2019.
There's one more thing that bothers me. Back in September when CW announced to customers that EvoNet will be taking over the accounts, they said: "Crystal Web has made use of the EvoNet network since the beginning of 2018 so you can expect only bigger and better things from your internet connection.".

But how is that even possible, given that EvoNet doesn't have the licenses required to operate a network? More lies?

Therein lies the rub. Prior to their split, CW and Evo shared the same AS number, and shared the same block of IP address space. CW had already been awarded a C-ECS licence, so they could offer those kinds of services on Evo's behalf. Evo would eventually build out their open access network thanks to a licence transfer from CW (which isn't happening now because there's all sorts of red tape around it). In my article I mention that CW were performing and bankrolling the trials for XtremeTTH and had several areas under NDA for their tests, so it would have been CW and that unnamed search engine that would set up the network that Evo would eventually take over and set up as an open-access network for last-mile fibre or WiMAX.

CW was the set-up, Evo was the end-game, and CW would eventually become an ISP just like any other rendering services on behalf of Evo to end-users. As for using the "EvoNet network", that's all part of the branding confusion. CW had their own bandwidth purchased from their supplier and had their own infrastructure hosted at internet exchanges. They had their own "network" so to speak. The relationship was a "what's yours is mine and what's mine is mine" sort of affair.

just randomly logged into my CW portal, using the link on CW website, the CW portal now has EN branding and i'm in the minus.... -R382 and all my accounts are disabled.

Heh. I just got a call from EvoNet asking why I haven't paid my account yet. Errr because I cancelled it last month?
"Yes but how did you cancel it?"
"I spoke to live support and then used the cancellation link they gave me as well."
"Ohh. Ok."

My internet is currently working. Is it going to be cut off in the future or am I okay?

How are you still connected? Did you move your line over to another ISP like Telkom, or are you still somehow connected through Crystal Web?

still connected through crystal web/evonet or whatever they are called. after load shedding yesterday I had no internet and thought it was the usual "concentrator not reachable" error i sometimes get after loadshedding. but it went on too long and i checked out the client portal and it said i owed them R300 or so rand, even tho i paid them. so did some googling this morning and your NAG article popped up. First time I had ever heard of this cluster****. I have been getting no communication from them. I got told about banking detail change 1 time and it worked last month but not this month i guess? they never even bothered to let me know my connection was cut.

So this morning i go to live chat and tell the dude my net is down even tho i've paid. he says send proof of payment to billing@evonet and to him in live chat and he will reconnect. he reconnects me in like 30 seconds of me sending him the PoP. net has been fine all day since about 8:00am. client portal still says i owe them cash :/

basically im trying to find out if Crystal/Evo is dead and i need to move on or am i fine? or am i an anomaly?

I have no idea how they're still managing your line and I bet Openserve has no idea either. DM me with your email address if you're looking to move to somewhere more stable. I expect things to get worse as January begins.

So just for clarity... am i on a ghost ISP XD? are there no crystal/evo people left? from the sounds of things it seems like this company doesnt exist anymore except for a trail of pissed off customers and upcoming lawsuits. To think yesterday I had no idea any of this was even happening
