Cyberpunk 2077

Honestly the more I hear about CP2077 the more I think about giving it a pass till it's 10 years old and giving my money to Beyond Good and Evil 2 instead.
Cyberpunk is either going to be one of the greats or the biggest flop in modern history.

I feel meh about the gameplay shown so far, but I bought it on GOG because it's CPR and they're cool. Hopefully, it's one of those that plays better than it looks.

The Witcher 3 had a lot going for it but the gameplay was really bland and unexceptional. I'm expecting Cyberpunk to be an improvement, since CDPR had to leave their comfort zone and rethink combat.

It's probably going to be good, but nowhere near deserving the current hype.

I actually found W3's gameplay good, considering the game is 5 years old already. Ran through it again in December and I had a blast. Does it match up with games like RDR2 , AC Odessey, Sekiro that is 3-4 years newer, probably not.

I agree though, expectation and hype is never good in the gaming industry because most of the time people get so hyped up that they feel so disappointed when the game is finally out. Not because the game is bad per se, people just want it to explode their minds.

Damn, we are like drug addicts. The next hits will never feel like that first line of coke.

For everyone still crying about requiring a super computer,

I was actually surprised to see some people bitch about the 'low' requirements.

Requirements these days don't mean much. Recommended is probably for 1080p with some settings not on max, at 30fps. RDR2 had similar or identical recommended specs and yeah, a 1060 is very subpar for RDR2.

Getting the most out of Cyberpunk is very likely to require a good card. I'll be grabbing a 3070 unless something from AMD's upcoming announcement provides better value. I'm using a relatively new 1440p monitor though, so my 6GB 1060 is even more out of its depth with the change in resolution.

I see there was another tizzy about microtransactions, so they've clarified.

This is a bit of a cop out, deciding to simply treat the online component as a separate game. EA could claim the same thing about FIFA. As far as I'm aware, there are no microtransactions for manager mode, The Journey and whatnot - you use your XP points or whatever to unlock stuff and that's about it. All the microtransactions are for Ultimate Team and other online modes.

Same goes for most shooters riddled with microtransactions. The single player campaign is usually just a thing you play through - sometimes at some length - and it is what it is without any addon marketplace. Loot boxes and all that s**t appear for the online play.

Unless Cyberpunk Online is really amazing, I have zero interest in it. So this doesn't bother me either way. But considering how CDPR f**ked up their Gwent pricing, I'm not inclined to view their microtransaction models favourably.

For me it was bugs.
The first big area (about 8? hours of gameplay) was amazing, but when I got to the 2nd I hit a physics bug where the horse/your movement broke, making you float (or be unable to move at all).

They eventually fixed it, but by then I was way over the game.

Ya, they're putting quite a bit of daylight between the SP and MP, though. A lot more so than other games.

The Witcher 3 is easily my favourite game ever. I don't see what about it was bland and unexceptional.

Although I can only comment about the PC version. I wouldn't play any RPG on console.

Either way, it doesn't bother me as long as the single player doesn't get shafted with the DLC in favour of online stuff. I couldn't care less about the multiplayer component of any game.

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has revealed Cyberpunk's main campaign will be shorter than that of The Witcher 3 because the studio "got a lot of complaints" about the length of Geralt's story. ... "We got a lot of complaints about The Witcher 3's main story just being too long.

"Slightly shorter" is that /2 or /3 which makes it roughly 50/2 = 25 or 16; which makes it around 20-25 hours for the SP? I'm laff if its only like 8 hours main story with the rest of the main story now dlc and side quests. haha.

Quite the opposite for me, the Witcher's storyline was so engaging that I absolutely loved every second. This seems a little like an excuse for saving costs IMO

I'm not too worried about this.
If the side content and world building is there I would take a 8 hour main story and 80 - 90 hour side content over a 30 hour main story and 20 hour or less side content any day.

I can tell you now the real reason with applied development thinking: Cutting content/corners to make said deadline.

I'm not worried either. I'm finding it quite comical seeing they now are using "focus/test groups" instead of what I would call "flarkit real-world data and usage". However, it's going to be (if true) sad if they are cutting for other reasons than tightening focus on the main line.

To make money?
To appeal to the masses?
To make corporate/investors happy?

I'd hardly say it is at that state and to the extent, it feels vampire bloodlines 2 is, but everyone gets their movement of a complete and utter ****up. Even square enix had to jesus-it-out with FF14. Still my pre-order is as-is with GoG, I even got the season pass for witcher 3 on gog, as I just had the base game, to add more support.
