Cyberpunk 2077

There's nothing spectacular about the cp2077 gfx, there's no wow geewiz omfg element here compared to other modern games. Secondly like I said you can mod that 7yr old game to look amazing in the visual department without requiring beast hardware.
I am trying to help Mark with his game, but pig headedness is getting in the way.
His GPU is not hitting full utilization, so he has a bottleneck somewhere.

If majority with older hardware had trouble running the game on PC, I would say, yes. The game is the issue, but that is not the case. So far on this forum alone, most people with older hardware run it just fine.

I have the same GPU as him and run the game fine.

Stating that you can run a 7 year old game better than Cyberpunk means nothing.
Unwillingness to accept that maybe there is an issue with his PC is not helping.

They started developing this game before previous gen consoles were released, there really is no excuse.
hmm google sê:

three and a half years

According to CD Projekt (CDPR's parent company) CEO Adam Kicinski, The Witcher 3 was developed over the course of three and a half years. The Witcher 3's release date was May 19, 2015, so that puts the beginning of development at late 2011.Aug 31, 2018

Wrt that I doubt his settings would help, I tried the low to ultra presets and I think the gpu ran at 100% in all of them only difference was the fps tanked as you went up.

Which is why I said his CPU is most likely bottlenecking the GPU, which is not being accepted.
Blaming the game is the feel good solution to the problem.

Turning off volumetric like volumetric clouds and fog can also make a huge difference in fps.

Of course that would happen. The GPU would run the game at the highest framerate possible, utilizing as much of its power as possible to generate those additional frames.

You don't suddenly see less GPU utilization by changing quality settings while already GPU bound unless you've capped the framerate or are CPU bound.

I know that, I'm trying to explain why the other guys settings won't matter if his gpu is idling away.

After 8 years in the development cauldron, with the last year as corona - they can't

Imho most of the issues stems from running this IP on their new Propriety Engine*. Which if they truly made it for current gen consoles should have started there with the basic OO** methodology and once the building blocks are set, sex it up to next gen. In this manner you have two paths available instead of going next gen and reversing into current gen. Of course, they could have started this way and was told to scrap it and going the next gen route. Either way both of those will and did raise red flags as we have it now. My guess is one the latter happened or too many of lets restart the engine; think duke nukem forever.

Let's throw in another option: It's always been hazardous design, development and team with them but Cyber Punk was just that title that caught up with them.

*Probably why it took 8 years, you don't sommer write a new one unless they were building from their previous engines into this one.
**Object Orientated; I would think at least make the basic forms of what you want to do and then interlink them making it easier to spot and fix **** like 'can't run on current gen' or hey we've done racing, what about gun play and collision detection etc.
Heads are gonna roll in January, someone or some people are gonna have to take the hit and be 'fired'
Shareholders must be panicking like crazy

It would if the GPU is idling as a result of the CPU not coping, which may be as a result of graphical settings or some other issue with his PC that is impacting CPU performance.

@Markd have you tried the memory_pool_budgets tweak? I suspect that it doesn't really do anything, but some swear blind it's fixed their GPU under-utilization.

I'm not disputing what you're saying. I think my CPU is bottlenecking ON CYBERPUNK but I'm not 100% on it. I played for a while last night and it was consistently at around 70-80% utilisation (i.e. not fully utilised) while I couldn't see much on the graphics card. This isn't just a problem I'm having - this appears to be a common problem including for people with recent generation i7's and 20/30xx cards per Reddit. (one example of many: )

I also had a number of instances where the game would just freeze/crash the PC so I followed a guide to:
  • Turn off chromatic aberration
  • Turn off motion blur
  • Turn off film grain
  • Turn off Cascaded Shadows Resolution
Which seems to have stopped the crashing/freezing from happening. Anyway, it's not like I'm running the game on a toaster here. It's currently working and I can play it reasonably well, glitches and bugs aside - it looks good. It is obvious though that it needs work. There are reports out there of people editing config files to make improvements that I might tinker around with. But I maintain that I don't believe the game is optimised at all.

I actually think there are some optimisation issues with Cyberpunk. I have an i5 7600 which is consistently at 90%+ utilisation, while my GTX 1060 appears to not be very taxed at all, despite the lower FPS. It's way more busy on older games like Titanfall2 than it is on Cyberpunk - which I don't understand.

My 970 is constantly at 99% GPU usage.

We already established his cpu is better than some others here.

Thanks - I read about this but forgot what it was called and had trouble finding it again. Will try this tonight and see what happens. I do wonder if the Performance view in task manager is wrong through, because it functions pretty well for 2% GPU utilisation...

And? Is he running identical settings to those with "worse" CPU's?

I'm not precluding that CP2077's code could be to blame as well (hence my suggestion that he try the config tweak), but you need to look at all the variables here.

"I never pre-order games but with CDPR you can"

:laugh::ROFL::laugh::ROFL::laugh::ROFL:

I will however admit the following.

I will continue to preorder my Pokemon Games, Monster Hunter games heck any games I want, might just watch out for CDPR.
