Cybersmart Weekender Cancellation

I agree with that statement 100%.
To me that is the crux.
Having had the reasons mentioned before the time would have made me feel better about the thing.

The crux of the matter is they chose to breach the free usage agreement, not how they went about not telling you about the breach. The ship that was torpedoed by the North Koreans is the crux, the crux is not how that baffoon Kim sick-n-ill handled (i.e. lied) about the whole affair. I don't know how i can make this any simpler.

My speed is actually better during the weekend when I am not as throttled as I usually am during work hours, weekdays. Is it only me or have others noticed this?

my speeds were great over the weekend- okay my line reset every 20 minutes, but thats a different story

My speed is actually better during the weekend. Is it only me or have others noticed this?

mine are always perfect, weekends and weekdays.
my line speed does tend to increase when grabbing files via http [but it's always done that].

Once again what is it that you guys download? Just curios because I am on weekender 3 with night rider and my usage only adds up to a grand total of 19GB...... all included. Yet people who download 50GB for example have the cheek to complain..... *FACEPALM. Every ISP has some sort of Fair Usage Policy, fair enough we were not informed but that is when common sense is supposed to prevail. You guys deserve it for leaving me without a proper connection for over 2 months. Thank you Cybersmart for cleaning up the mess. I am still on Weekender 3 no problems. Bye Abusers, you gave me 2 months of living hell, I cussed and broke everything in my room every weekend when I could not even watch a YouTube video.

@ schick you used 19 gb i used 16 gb yet your sevice is still enabled and well mine was cut do i nt sence double standards .
also cybersmart is the most unethical serviceprovider in this country as it is run buy a bunch of money hungry people contrary of most previous views as they advertise falsly, use terms not mentioned in the agreement basically pulling them out of their thumbs .

while mweb is developing S A cybersmart is just holding its customers back from mweb this whole falsely advertised scheme of cybersmarts was used to hold people back from moving over to mweb as they thought that mwebs service would crack and qos would become horrible . not realising the true potential of having a large customer base and sacrificing short term profitability in order to move forward .

mweb is successfully providing a acceptable level of sevice to many friends of mine and i intend to follow . cybersmart might only wake up when all the other isp's have finished their 3 year agreement to pay off seacom and truely cheap broadband comes to life .

No, 19 GB FOR ALL my account types ie. Weekender, night Rider and normal usage. I only did 9 GB during weekender and 4 GB during Night rider.

I would believe you but if you look at the things that have happened with MWEB in the past you would realise that what you have said is absolute rubbish.
MWeb are the LAST to offer uncapped internet, not the first. Others tried it and have realised that the cheap bandwidth that they were expecting never came so they had to pull or limit their offerings.
MWeb is one (if not the) biggest and richest ISP's, they are also part of the biggest and ruthless conglomerates in SA (Naspers) and they have the money to fund uncapped until the price of data drops, the small ISP's don't.

Go with Mweb if you want... but when there are no more small ISP's left and there is an Mweb monopoly we are all going to cry.

PS: My stats

I was not cut off.

Good job good man, you make sense and I can see you are a respectable user towards the internet. We need more people like you who understand how to control themselves on the internet when you have been given a privelage. Living in America, we had Uncapped internet and very high speeds (I had 70mbps) not many of us abused it either. I used to clock in at only 10 - 20 GB per month and so did most of the people I knew. I really do not see the need to go crazy over free data usage, get over it people.... go to a shop and buy a DVD, rent a DVD, purchase your games and music etc... if you can afford internet surely you can afford to buy a music CD or a DVD, and don't give me BS that 'OMG it is so expensive'.

You see a Ferrari but it is too expensive would you go and steal it? Of course not, this is how crooks think. They cannot afford food so they go and steal it. If you guys cannot afford to buy a DVD or music CD and want to download it, how different are you from a regular crook? Garbage, absolute garbage. I have no idea that this is what society has become. Also, there is nothing else that you guys are doing besides downloading movies and music etc that would make you clock in at 50GB per month for example. Grow up.

@nerfherder

yes i didnt say mweb was the first i know axxess and many others had and still have some if not the best services . what mweb did is make this bandwith affordable for the masses . if you asked me in jan this year if i see myself getting uncapped . i would have said no as honestly it was unaffordable and my budget would never allow it .

if a 1000 people ie 7% of cybersmart so by my calculations they have a customer base of +- 14000 clients lets call it 10000 clients . so is cybersmart small ? NO
i personally have refered 3-5 friends since weekender started they intern refered their friends so lets say 10 people came from just me now if cybersmart was running the show properly . 500 more people would have refered two of their friends each meaning 1000 more clients over a year they could have doubled their base making their service far more profitable than mweb . yet they let the loss of short term profitability affect them .
yes naspers fund mweb but you need to ask yourself who funded richard brandson , ryan from west coast customs , many others funding may assist you but it doesnt make you better it just makes your ride easier .
cybersmart was a moral choice in adsl and could have easily grown bigger than naspers they just needed to take a few risks and make a few sacrifices now with their bad reputation and immoral practice i duno .

We quite enjoy our unshaped bandwidth and perfect connection logs thank you. If you wanna leave then leave, that is your problem. They have been in business for over 12 years or so, I am sure they know more than you.

They said to me 20GB during Weekender is the limit. They told me this only today lol. Well my usage during Weekends in a month is 400MB so I get to stay =)
4mbps unshaped beauty, kinda

So how much data have you actually used, and if it's 19GB then what was it all used on? Because I have downloaded much less than that and most of it was series so how can you claim none of it was illegal in any sense. And even if it was all legal (e.g. youtube and gaming), you're right at the threshold that cybersmart is kicking people out at but you are saying they deserve to be moved to a different package/ISP because they are deteriorating your access. Well I say you are deteriorating my access because you are using more than me!

What's the story?

I download demo games from the PSN store on PS3, use MSN for video chatting and watch astronomy videos on Youtube. I only use the weekend internet after 1aM when traffic is low anyway. I feel you have no case on me sir. I don't understand what did not make sense. And me downloading 19 GB in a month is in NO WAY ruining your experience. Because the others who are abusing it are gone, blame them.

Here is a mail exchange between me and Siya at Cybersmart:

22 March 2010
Hi Francoislr

Im afriad these are the only packages we will be offering.

We will be offering the following for R199.
1. 2Gig cap + 384Kb adsl circuit
2. Free browsing on the weekend
3. Your gigs can be saved up to a maximum of 3Gigs 4. Topups at R35 per
gig.
5. Unshaped bandwidth
If you add the nightrider add on to this your topup price will drop to
R29 per Gig

We will be offering the following for R299 1. 10 Gig cap + 384Kb adsl
circuit 2. Free browsing on the weekend 3. Your gigs can be saved up to
a maximum of 15 Gigs 4. Topups at R33 per gig 5. Unshaped bandwidth If
you add nightrider to this your topups will reduce to R27 per Gig

For existing users who are prepared to accept similar terms to mweb's
and would like uncapped purely for the convenience of not topping up
and are planning to keep their usage patterns in the same range as they
were previously as opposed to increasing it 10 times as we have
experienced during our trial then we will match mwebs offering on
unshaped bandwidth

Regards
Siya

I replied:

Hi Siya,

I have been thinking about the offer you told me about. Question, what would these offers cost at a higher line speed? 512k in particular, 4 meg would just cost too much.

Why I ask this, I would love an uncapped offer from you guys. It would be brilliant, but I do understand the concepts of fair usage and shaping applied during certain hours. I really don't like the idea of shaping, as I use the internet primarily after hours and overnight for torrents. Weekends not really, but I have a few questions:

1. So for R300 I get 10GB, and with nightrider, that makes it 50GB if I use it in nightrider times? I download a lot, but I don't get much more than 1GB a night, so I figure my usage would stay between 30-50GB if even that much.
2. Would all this be unshaped?
3. And would the unshaped be 24/7?
4. Would this all still fall under acceptable usage from my side?

If I go for this, I would want it from next month first thing. Would that be fine?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Kind Regards
Francois

You know what? They never came back to me, never told me it was unacceptable, and put me on this new package. There is no way they can say they were unaware that users would use so much...I did say 50GB a month, and they never came back to me and said it would be abuse. I think it's pathetic and I will get back at them in my own way...I set up about 3-6 people on ADSL a year...most of them I have shown the direction of Cybersmart...It won't happen again. In fact, I was still selling this to a friend a week ago...already told him I am disappointed, so he must stick to his Mweb trial for now. I might be joining him soon enough.

You do know there are many legitimate ways to use 50Gb a month? There are also many legitimate ways to acquire movies, music and games online. Just because you're happy to drive to the shop all the time, like we used to do in the 90's, doesn't mean everyone is.

You misunderstood.... Mweb are undercutting everyone else. Its not possible that they could offer a product cheaper unless they had an unfair advantage. Either they have cut a deal with Telkom to provide dirt cheap bandwidth or they are selling below cost to kill the market, either way its criminal.

Cybersmart is tiny compared to Mweb. Just to put it in perspective, Mweb ate up most of the smaller isp's that started with them way back when, Tiscali, Worldonline, Icon etc. They used big money from their holding company to dominate the ISP market. Cybersmart is a reseller.

Thats the magic of it though... despite selling exactly what every other ISP in SA is selling they are able to create packages of real value for us. I have had a high cap for years now... back when most people were paying the same for 3gigs at Mweb.

Dude, I am sticking on Cybersmart for as long as you are in the country, purely to spite you.

The CapExtender is an add-on facility.

As a Cybersmart subscriber, every month you are given an amount of data that you can download by surfing the internet or fetching your emails. The amount given to you is measured in terms of Gigabytes (Gigs) and you are allowed to use 3 Gigs per month. On our normal service, once you have used your allowance, the only way to continue to surf or retrieve emails was to top-up your account.

Cybersmart has now introduced another revolutionary new concept we like to call CapExtender. By paying an extra monthly fee, CapExtender allows you access to local websites and your email once you have used all of your International Cap. In addition, you are able to switch between CapExtender and your normal account at any time during the month and save your International Cap for when you need it most.

Managing your bandwidth could not be easier.

I am gonna email them and ask them for the R70 add-on, and torrent during the week days. My torrent sites are 70% local anyways, so it should work. Should be able to get more out than I did with the previous packages.

Okay =) I don't mind, as long as you know your limits it is cool with me =) I dare you to try and d/load 50 GB next month =)

Can I please know the name of the company you pay your monthly subscription for legal downloads? I use Graboid. $30 p/m hence the Gold subscription.
