After hearing of lots of people having problems i felt I should put them down. Below is just my complaint to them and of one other user.

Mine:
Ive been a customer for over a year. My first complaint is their account blocking "service" where it disables the account if used on a different line. I have 2 adsl lines and you cannot turn off this "service". Furthermore, it doesnt help at all because you just phone them and give them you username and they unblock it(no security checks??). Either take it away or make it secure! Secondly for about 3 months they were charging me for a 4mb line(which is a ripoff compared to other companies like webafrica and axxess), and my download peaked at about 15 kb/s. HOW is that a 4mb line?? They also refused to refund me. Another problem which happened quite alot was where their account just wont dial(other account for fine). And PLEASE fix you phone system. Its great that you have that estimated time thing but it doesnt help at all. "You have 5 minutes remaining"..."20 seconds"..."10mins remaining"...?!

The other user:
My 3GB international went poof! So I emailed them and they told me its because I downloaded 1GB in 2 hours. Thats with a 384kbs line!
Now consider this:
384 is 128 up
max down is 48 kb/s
2.8mb per min down
337MB down in 2 hours max
112.5 MB up max in 2 hours
the max possible amount of bw you can do on a 384 line in 2 hours in perfect condition (speed you will never see on that line) up and down will be 450MB.
So how the hell did I do 1gb?

Their tracker isn't working or something. But they don't wanna listen.

I also get a warning that I have overused 900mb of my 3GB international. I get a warning that I will be charged R70 for using extra local 3GB but last night I had 4GB left.

That nightrider thing aint working right! 1GB download = 600mb on cap. Its supposed to be 200mb but the tracker is faulty but NO cybersmart says otherwise!

My bill for this month. is about R600 with all these warnings. I won't pay a cent till they fix it. I promise I will take them to court. I have like 40 screenshots. They will pay!

And these are just 2 of many complaints...
I will never ever use cybersmart again. Its both cheaper, and more reliable to just use Webafrica or axxess.

yeah they are making a hash of things atm.... :( Also had problems with VERY slow up and down load speeds  Its a lot better now that i complained to them....

I have been using a cybersmart account for the last couple of days, my friend moved and still had a month of access which he will not be able to use, the 30day notice so he paid for this month, now I am using the account, we arranged all this with them and it is, well working no complaints, I did notice the connection would sometimes not establish maybe an error on their radius server or something, For the 384 the prices really aren't bad the best i have seen, but as was mentioned, anything higher in speed seems to be close, if not more than the normal isp's.

The thing that got me was their EULA, damn not being able to use any other isp, must make use of their email, crazy stuff like that.

I have not had to deal with their support staff, so can't comment there.

But to conclude, I will not be leaving WebAfrica and openweb as a client any time soon...

I also had problems with Cybersmart, being a customer for over a year too.
I stopped using them since March. They are idiots, thats all i can say ...

If you can get away with not making much use of their customer service then they're the one of the best around :p

oh boy, I've just applied for a Cybersmart account.... Is anyone happy with them???!!

Their AAA service is poorly set up and maintained (nor redundant). You can expect this kind of service from a service provider that asks the following to potential job applicants.

Please answer the following questions:

1. What is the purpose of a DNS server?
2. What is the difference between a POP and SMTP server?
3. What is an IP address?
4. What is a gateway?
5. If you have an ADSL router on a network and you don't know its IP address how would you find it?
6. What are Mail Exchanger or MX records?
7. What are proxy servers or cache servers and why would we use them?
8. In ADSL what is the NAS port and NAS IP address?
9. What are Gigabits, Gigabytes, Megabits, Megabytes, Kilobits, Kilobytes, bits, bytes?
10. What is the difference between bridge mode and router mode on an ADSL router?
11. What does a "self install" mean?
12. What is a POTS filter and where is it used?
13. What information do you need to set up an ADSL account?
14. What is ADSL user verification and when is it done?

Will be changing my ISP to Axxess once the line is upgraded to 512.

I was happy - the problem I had was every month I had this ominous cloud hanging over me in terms of contract-cancellation and so on.
I much prefer a same-day cancellation - or better yet, pre-paid.

Well thats only an advantage if ur on a 384k line. Else its cheaper to go with an ISP that doesnt care what line speed u have(eg. all the rest).

Yeah, the only reson i didnt cancel sooner is cuz of their rubish cancelation. It was in a family members name who lives overseas...such a mission, and then still had to wait a month to be free of them!

@Cadavre777, yeah with ADSL you seriously need to have real world experience. Lol, when i phoned telkom once they told me the reason my DSL wasnt synching was cuz I didnt have an account in my router...

I don't understand:confused: You referring to the 30 day notice to cancel the contract story?

It is not quite 30 days. It is based on when you cancel too.
And then there is the "we will cancel your service if you use another ISP" problem.

Yeah, how the f can they tell you that you cant use anyone else. Never actually read that, and plus you kinda have to use a different ISP if u also want local only(cuz cybersmarts is way overpriced).
BTW if anyone from cybersmart is reading this, u should really take that rule away, cuz ur making probly about 65% of ur users break ur "law"...

i decided to pay more and go with another ISP based on that "law"
stuff that

Fortunately I saw this "law" highlighted somewhere here on MB before I decided on ISP's and discounted them as a result. It's as bad as network locking routers/modems, IMHO. I am paying more, but happy to move as I please. Simple, if the service sux, move, without out being restricted by monopolistic barriers.

I'm also paying a little more and don't have to worry about ridiculous and unreasonable rules. Unbelievable amount of unhappy Cybersmart users around.

Satisfied Cybersmart Client

I've been a Cybersmart client for about 2 years.
None of the 'issues' mentioned in this thread have ever affected me. I have not felt threatened, intimidated or bullied by any of the items being complained about here. (the "laws" you whine about).

Try calling Iburst, if you want a live demo of cr@p service.

Can anyone prove that there is a cheaper ISP than Cybersmart?
Look here to check for yourself:
http://www.hellkom.co.za/ispprices/adsl-3gb.php

I have no affiliation with Cybersmart whatsoever - just a normal internet user and satisfied customer.
:p
