The ANC members were noticeably absent when the council meeting started at 10:00.

ANC members weren't there at 10:00. You can't except one system where they don't have to come to work to be replaced with one they have to.
You at least have to have a transition period where the ANC members can acclimatize to the new times.

Councillors don't have time in their contracts. If they don't arrive at meetings, the meeting will continue. They still get paid. They can't get fired even if they don't attend meetings as they are put there by their parties.

Having a meeting at 10:00 from day 1 discriminates against ANC Councillors the same way calling a meeting in the mens bathroom will discriminate against women.

*** man. My previous job started at 10, and my current one started at 8. Had to get used to it in 1 day.

Besides, it's not the DA's fault that the ANC were resting on their laurels because of a misguided sense of power.

Regarding the jailing of the whole ANC, never read that anywhere, and Trollip even said they're not gonna purge any existing staff, so I'm thinking you're just making stuff up as you go.

I find it strange that members of this forum suddently think a few DA led municipalities make us a 1st world country.
Just look at something as minor as the ANC major candidate that nearly caused the whole Tswane being burnt down.
How many people were arrested. Zero. As long as the ANC controls the national goverment who appoint police then laws will not be enforced.
The ANC can burn down everything for the slightest reason like they just showed this year in Tswane. I am just saying be lenient on them or expect chaos. South Africa doesn't need the instability.

What utter rubbish.

This is probably the most important council meeting they would ever have been invited to attend. The municipal manager ensured that they each received the agenda and meeting notes (about 800 pages I'm told).

They were there... just not inside the chamber. They deliberately assembled outside the chamber in an attempt to disrupt the meeting. That failed when the municipal manager (appointed by the ANC) declared that a quorum had been formed due to there being 68/120 councillors present.

This disrupted their disption plan, so they trooped into the chamber 45 minutes late.

Then they attempted to have the meeting halted. The municipal manager rejected it.

Once the Speaker was elected, the municipal manager handed over proceedings to him.

The ANC then tried to raise frivolous objections and points of order, which he rejected and continued with the business of council per the approved agenda.

At this stage the ex-mayor, Danny Jordan, was still not in the house - an hour late.

So to play the discrimination card is a fail.
