Dacia to reveal new Jogger seven-seater at Munich show

New model will replace the not-for-UK Lodgy MPV as Romanian firm's seven-seater

Dacia will reveal a new seven-seat family car called the Jogger, which will be revealed at the Munich motor show as a replacement for the Lodgy MPV.

The new model from Group Renault's budget brand, described as "a versatile family car", will be revealed on 3 September ahead of going on display at the Munich show the following week.

Dacia says that the Jogger name was chosen because is is a "simple, modern" title that represents "dynamism, positive energy, and the outdoor spirit". In a hint at its positioning, it also shares the 'er' suffix with the Duster SUV and the recently shown Bigster large SUV concept.

The Lodgy MPV was launched in 2012, although it has never been sold in the UK. It is unclear if the Jogger, which is a key part of Dacia's ongoing range expansion, will be offered in this market.

Renault Group teases seven-seater Dacia Jogger crossover​


The Renault Group’s Romanian sub-brand has announced a new crossover that will fall part of the French company’s low-cost crossover strategy. Dubbed the Dacia Jogger, the new model will be available with a five- and seven-seater configuration.

The Romanian brand states that the Dacia Jogger will be a vehicle for families that will cater to their daily adventures and journeys in the great outdoors. The product aims to offer a “pragmatic spirit” as the brand offers a vehicle that allows its customers to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, with friends and family in complete freedom.

The Dacia Jogger uses a simple name with the hopes that anyone can pronounce and understand it. The firm says that this name represents dynamism, positive energy and the outdoor spirit. The suffix ‘er’ as with Duster, Dacia’s iconic SUV model, evokes the robustness and endurance of an ideal everyday companion for Dacia families.

An official reveal of the Dacia Jogger is expected to take place in the coming days at this year’s IAA in Munich.

It’s not yet clear whether the new product will just be a seven-seater alternative to the Dusteror a rebadged Renault Triber.

This just in: Dacia has revealed the name of its new car, and it will be called the ‘Jogger’.

You will have already deduced that this is a teaser, because of a distinct lack of pictures. Dacia intends on fully revealing its new family car on 3 September. Until then we have the name, and the fact it’ll be available as either a five- or seven-seat family car.

Dacia imagines this new Jogger will be used by families in “both their daily adventures and their trips in the great outdoors”, and… actually whatever gags you might have about the name there’s no mistaking Dacia’s outdoor credentials. TG once took a Duster to the Romanian mountains.

Dacia will add a family-friendly estate-cum-MPV-cum-SUV to its UK range in 2022. It uses the various bits from the excellent Sandero supermini but in a very spacious body – it even has adult-sized seats.

It'll be a refreshing change from just another SUV to be launched and, because it's a Dacia, it's packed with good features and will be great value for money. Prices are expected to start at around £13,000.

Available in five- and seven-seater guises, the new Jogger has been designed to blend estate car size, MPV interior space and fashionable SUV styling, and will arrive in the UK early next year.

It replaces the Lodgy MPV, a car that was never sold in Britain, and will sit alongside the new Sandero supermini and recently refreshed Duster SUV.

It uses the Sandero’s platform and pinches that car’s front-end styling, along with its Y-shaped LED day-running lights, wide grille and flared wheel arches.

From the driver’s door back it’s completely new. The rear passenger compartment is marked by a step in the roof and window line, hinting at the car’s spacious rear compartment.

Large doors aid access to the rear-most seats in seven-seater Joggers, while the back-end features a wide tailgate and vertical tail-lights.

The body is raised giving 200mm of ground clearance and wheel arch cladding and skid plates give an SUV-esque look. Some models also feature a patented modular roof rail system, which with a few clicks can transform from carrying skis to bikes.

Dacia Jogger revealed as Sandero-based seven-seater crossover

The Renault Group is expanding its seven-seater line-up with the new Dacia Jogger. The latest crossover adopts the underpinnings of the Sandero’s CMF-LS platform for consumers looking for a bit more space.

The Dacia Jogger claims to offer the length of a stationwagon, spaciousness of an MPV and the looks of an SUV. The new product measures 4 547 mm long, 1 784 mm wide and 1 632 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2 897 mm.

At launch, the Dacia Jogger will be fitted with the Renault Group’s turbocharged 1,0-litre three-cylinder engine TCe 110 which will deliver power to the fronts via a six-speed manual gearbox. An LPG variant will also be available in select markets. No word regarding an automatic transmission has been mentioned. A hybrid powertrain has been scheduled for a 2023 introduction.

The Dacia Jogger will hit 30 international markets by next February. It is not yet clear whether Renault will rebadge this model for our local market but if it decides to do so, this crossover would slot right above the current Triber.

Replacement for Dokker, Lodgy and Logan MCV will be the cheapest seven-seat family car on sale

Dacia has unveiled the all-new Jogger, which will be the cheapest seven-seat family car on the market, as it continues to revitalise and expand its range of value-focused cars.

Following on from the launch of the new Sandero and inspired by the Bigster SUV concept, the Jogger is based around the same CMF-B platform as its supermini sibling but with a wheelbase stretched by 300mm to accommodate the additional rear seats. Crucially, it will be available as a hybrid – a first for Dacia.

Blending “estate car practicality, MPV spaciousness and SUV styling”, the Jogger has 200mm of ground clearance and, at 4547mm long, is Dacia's biggest model.

Despite the SUV looks, modular roofbars and scuffplates, the Jogger will be available with only front-wheel drive, as the Duster SUV will remain “as the true off-roader”.

Designed to replace the Dokker, Lodgy and Logan MCV models, the Jogger has three rows of flexible seats, with the middle row rolling forward and splitting 60:40.

The boot volume is 160 litres the rear seats in place (enough for a small shopping trip), rising to 708 litres if the rearmost seats are removed in their entirety.

In recent years, the answer to idly being asked ‘which normal car should I buy?’ was ‘a Skoda’. For anyone not craving acceleration records or cornering g, the most appropriately sized Skoda to your budget and needs was probably The Right Answer.

But now it may be Dacia. The Czechs have edged their cars a little more upmarket while Renault’s Romanian cousin has piled more tech into its value aisle cars without swelling the prices. And now there’s a seven-seater.

Meet the Dacia Jogger. Sure, jogging may not be the most high-octane of hobbies to name a practical lifestyle-y car after, but perhaps – for most of us – it’s a nicely grounded, realistic one. It matches most of our aspirations – and Dacia’s general no-nonsense vibe – quite nicely.

Its maker describes it as “a family car that exists in a class of its own, delivering a price-to-spaciousness ratio that is unique to Dacia”. Indeed, this may be the sub-niche to end them all – an estate car with people carrier and SUV vibes baked in.

The roof rails hold 80kg and are wildly adjustable while the split/folding seats can apparently be configured in 60 different layouts. Luggage volume peaks at 1,819 litres – more than a Volvo V90 despite the Jogger being half a metre shorter, at 4.5m.

From its 2022 launch there’ll be a choice of petrol and bi-fuel powertrains, both with around 100bhp, while a hybrid offering – Dacia’s first – follows in 2023. We’re told it’ll be 40 per cent more efficient than a petrol equivalent without you having to adjust your driving style.

I miss the days when dads drove sedans and station wagons. Very few people actually need SUVs.
