DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

No, don't think so. But ic is already campaigning for this. And it's normally easier to get him what he wants, otherwise he won't shut up. :D

LOL! - Oh goodie, can't wait for this to be implemented ..... would save me some cash ...

Sometimes MTN comes to the rescue [albeit years late] and forces Vodacom to follow in MTN's tracks - much like what happened with quasi-rollover :p.

Don't call it roll-over. Ginggs will have a hernia...;)

One thing MTN is good at; ANNOUNCING products, even if they're a bit 'premature' or if the competition have been having it for a long time (or if they get wind the competition is going to launch). Like buying more than one bundle in a month, pre-paid top-up, numberless SIMs, HSDPA, etc.

I often think Vodacom is way too conservative in product announcements. The current culture is you tend to announce only when it's fully in production.

3.6 and 7.2 being good examples. Only when 100% of the 3G towers were on 3.6 (and later again on 7.2) was it announced. And we all remember how no-one could find any yellow 3.6 or 7.2 towers, weeks after the Sunday ads. ;) I remember ginggs was on a one-man (actually two-man, now that I remember) crusade to find a high-speed yellow tower and eventually found 1 in Cape Town.

Vodacom, on the other hand, waited till there were 2700 of them up and running before announcing. Way to conservative, I think.

We did find one remember? :p

One thing thing I learnt (from Vodashop, so it could be wrong) about DataSIM is that it's 2 x SIMs - but one for Blackberry? So he said I couldn't have one in my laptop and the other in my desktop. True?

He ended up giving me for my desktop only

They're right,

1 - Voice + data
2 - Data Card
3 - Blackberry

But I've got no idea what will happen if you try and stick the 3rd SIM in a PC..........

You will find that the 3rd (blackberry) SIM cannot connect to the internet APN, but can connect to internetvpn and iphone APNs. I still have an outstanding ticket with Vodacom to fix this. v3g: I will put some details together and mail you.

I've just had the 'unrestricted' APN activated on my Data SIM number and it works perfectly.

My wife received an SMS on her phone (the primary SIM) notifying her that 'unrestricted' APN had been activated on her number, so presumably if you activate it for one Data SIM, it is activated for all the linked ones as well.

Correct ... The whichever profile you select for whichever SIM gets activated on all SIMs for that contract ... well that's how I understood it in any case :)

Something that's important; You have to start off with a voice contract and then add a data sim to it.

You cannot add a data sim to a data contract.

I dont understand why you cannot have a data sim on a data contract, does it work on the same principle?

Hello , can someone clarify this please :
The third Data sim - Meant for Black berry cannot be used for Data in a netbook or desktop ? Whether by hook or crook?
like most people here I use my data for on phone , desktop and Netbook/Laptop but only 2 at a time - need 3 sims to prevent the ardous Sim swop twice a day!!

What I have is:
Contract Phone - Normal SIM
B970 Router - DataSIM #1
E272 Modem - DataSIM #2 (aka blackberry SIM).

With the first 2 SIMs I can connect to internet, internetvpn and iphone APN. With DataSIM #2 I can only connect to internetvpn and iphone APN. So maybe a work around for you (which I am also doing) is to use the internetvpn APN.

With DataSIM #2 I can only connect to internetvpn and iphone APN.
Have you tried the 'unrestricted' and Blackberry APNs?

I could do with a second Data SIM, but don't want to waste money on the connection fee if it's not going to work for me.

Not yet.

@ Morkhans , thanks for the answer , can I use the the DataSIM #2 that only has the internetvpn and iphone APN to connect to the web and browse normally on my netbook or laptop?

I'm in the same boat (phone, netbook, desktop) - and It'll be pretty awesome if they ever have this!

Surely it is more of a business decision and not a technical reason to not have?
